You reversed ten feet, moron. The balloon was under the car until you pulled forward five more feet.

This is all I have to say.
OK...let's throw some wood on the fire. ;)
The Cobalt/G5 are made here locally. Front page story in our newspaper yesterday: http://www.vindy.com/news/2008/jun/26/more-than-meets-the-eye-for-some-cobalts-make-the/
Now...comments from the peanut gallery in the newspaper forums:

Teh most epic quote FTW:
:rollin:
I'm all for car customizing and whatnot. It keeps younger people out of trouble, for the most part, and gets them creative which can possibly lead to a career. Everyone should have the chance to make their cars unique.
However, I'm really doubting that there's long-term value associated with the cars...then again, look at our rusty heaps...
Our rusty heaps had a V8 option......and are real easy to upgrade to the quintessential V8 from the decade -- the HO -- and way beyond. The Turbo 4 was leaps and bounds ahead of everything else from the era as well and also has tons of potential.
The Cobalt -- even in the Forced induction SS form fights an uphill battle against the Mitsu EVO, Subie STI, BMW 135/335, Dodges SRT-4 cars, and the Ford Mustang (GT, GT500 and all the other spin offs).
That's some stiff competition and the Cobalt IMHO is undergunned to face it. So it would need something to make it stand out to be noticed in the annals of time.....
I'm at a loss there because I really can't think of a reason why they stand out......Our cars? Gee.....being on the cutting edge of leaving the automotive dark ages comes to mind....
The Cobalt is also a lot cheaper than every one of those cars you just listed, except the Calibre SRT-4, which doesn't even belong in that company. Even still, have you read much about the new turbo Cobalt? The 2008 model overshadows the old SC'd SS in every way. 14.0 @ 103.6 right out of the box; 1.2 seconds and 8mph faster than the '07. 55hp and 60lb/ft more than the blown version, with a suspension tuned on the Green Hell. The only car under $25G (US) with launch control, and has a no lift-shift feature. It's a serious car, all of a sudden. Too bad they did nothing to update the looks so you can tell the difference between an SC and a Turbo.

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/28/officially-official-2008-chevy-cobalt-ss-bows-at-sema/
With its balanced tuning, the Cobalt SS delivers a quick 0-60 time of approximately 5.7 seconds – thanks to the manual transmission's "no-lift shift" feature – and a sports car-like maximum lateral grip of 0.9 g. This combination enabled the Cobalt SS to set a new class record while circulating the famed Nürburgring racing circuit, posting a time of 8:22.85 minutes.
Yeah, it's a Chevy economy commuter in essence, but it has a big ace up it's sleeve. If anyone can give a turbocharged Neon respect, it's time to step back and look at the Cobalt again. A small coupe that can lay claim to the numbers it does, and has a model (XFE) that makes 37mpg should make this a big winner. It needed a reskin with this upgrade, though.
*edit*
Oh yeah. The Mustang doesn't compete with the Cobalt in any way. Especially the GT500.
Most published quarter mile results for the blower version were in the 14.4 range......How is that 1.2 seconds?
Our cars weren't cheap either compared to the other stuff they overshadowed back in the day;)
2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbocharged Coupe -- MSRP: $22,335
2008 Ford Mustang GT Deluxe Coupe -- $26,240
With pricing that close I'd say they compete on a small level. People shop within a budget. I'm sure the Turbo car has stolen away some prospective V6 Mustang buyers...That doesn't mean the car is a standout.
Besides,
I know which one would be better suited to a road trip for 4 or 5 days with luggage ;)
No, not a standout, but you can't dismiss it either. I really don't think someone looking into buying a GT would have a Cobalt ever cross their mind, other than the fleeting image of themselves 'blowing the doors off one'. ;) You'll also never see a GT hit 30mpg. I'd say more than ever people are shopping milage over budget.
Edmunds numbers of 15.2 @ 95.6 is what I'm using for comparison, since both sets of numbers are found in the one article. If people were pulling 14.4 in the SC with 205hp, expect the '08 to hit high 13's with 260.
That's not the point, though. I was replying to your statement that it was fighting an uphill battle with cars that aren't in its class. That's to be expected. The SRT-4 is the only one in that class, and I don't think people looking at compact sports coupes would look at compact crossovers. As for apples and apples, the Cobalt is a class leader in performance.
I'm not a fan of the Cobalt, and can guarantee you I'll never own one. But I'll give any car its due.
High 20's is not out of the norm....I routinely see mid 20's on the highway WITH the blower.
Agreed. For now. How will it stand the test of time in 20 years will be interesting....
Agreed.
Both Motor Trend and C&D got the 14.4 figure. IIRC another source did as well.
People do shop accross class lines on autos, though ;)
When I bought the Nitro I also looked at the Impala SS, Ford Edge, and Ford Escape.
There aint much in the Cobalt's comparitve class I would even think of owning to be honest
reminds me of a more econo sized buick. They had/have blowers, but no one cares.
That's for sure. The Cobalt as well. :D This is the Civic/Lancer/Focus group. Wow. Not much to go on there.
It's gotta be fake I just can't see how anyone can be that stupid.
I actually like the Colbolt SS infact i think it kinda looks like the 99 in a more squared off manner(Especially when you put taillight covers on the 99)

sorry about the py cellphone pic dont want to wake the GF @ 7 am when i kept her out till 5)
I like the idea of a turbocharged 4 or six maybe when i have enough cash like after i get into a career i might turbo the 99 but i know that it has its limits just like everything else.
