Title: So I am getting a bike.
Post by: Carl on June 17, 2008, 01:03:04 AM
I just passed a mandatory Motorcycle safety course that took all weekend. (Mandatory for the Military.)

Anyway I am thinking about getting a Honda Shadow 750.

Does anyone know of a good cruiser to get?

I really don't want a crotch rocket.

Any suggestions?

By the way I usually spend about 300 on gas a month now and would only spend around 32 a month with a motorcycle.

Add payments and insurance and I am still up by close to 200 bucks a month. :D

The good thing about the course is that it lowers my insurance and I am already qualified for a license so I can walk in the DMV tomorrow and get it.

My dad has a Honda Goldwing... man is it smooth! It's like the caddy of all bikes. When I rode with him, he had us out on a nice stretch of highway and got it up to 95 mph, I had no idea we were going that fast.... it was like sitting still.
He has taken mom out to the Grand Canyon on it, then to California, and up across the Dakota's back home to Pa. Definitely a nice ride.

Nothing better than a bike you build yourself. Im working on a mutt of a bike... Ive got a KZ 650 motor in the works. and im going for that oldschool bobber look.

Youve pretty much hit the nail on the head Honda Shadow's are great. weve got a VLX 600 and that thing rides real nice.

What Im going for in the look is somthing like this.

I was looking into a ninja 650 for a starter but decided with my lead foot it would be better to wait till my tickets clear then think about a bike.

Forget what I said about not wanting a crotch rocket because it's not everyday you find a Ducati for only 2500 (I can probably talk him down to 1,800 because it has some minor body blemishes.

Probably getting a 907 I.E.

Here is an example. The one I am looking at is the same color and model.

Nice! I wasnt too big on them either but for the price, power, and mileage I cant see why I wouldnt get one. Always wanted a Harley but cant afford one of those for a long time, going to be saving for a while now.

I like the Yamaha v-twins. Tons of torque, lots of get up and go, and your in 5th gear by 25mph. And in 5th at 25, without down shifting its still a pretty good chunk faster then a cougar...

depends on what you are looking for. I have a 82 Honda CB900C. good solid bike, it has a high range on the transmission that basicly acts as a 6th gear when on the highway. drops the rpm down 1000 and gets great MPG.

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead but I finally decided on the bike I am getting. 2004 Harley Sportster 883. It has a load of add-ons from the factory and has screamin eagle pipes.

Sounds mean! I am getting the paperwork together today and should have the bike by next week. Hopefully sooner!
