Title: Help ASAP! Could this short burn a fusible link? And, HELP with temp fix!
Post by: booksix on June 16, 2008, 12:02:41 AM
Ok, so the story goes:

Since the 88 TC didn't have an actual fuel pump relay (it was housed in the computer under the hood) I needed to add one when I put the 5.0 in.  So, I simply added the proper fusible link (according to the mustang diagrams) at the starter solenoid and ran a new wire to my new fuel pump relay.  This weekend, while working on the SN dash, I pinched it between the steering column's mounting tab and the dash, which chewed up the insulation and shorted it out.  Would this short cause the fusible link to burn up?

Next, if it did (which I'm assuming it did cause I get no voltage) could I just pull 12v from the ign switch, through an inline fuse, so I can get to work tomorrow?  I ask this because this fusible link is buried up under the inner fender...

run a wire from the starter solenoid up to one side of the inertia switch with an inline fuse and an inline heafty toggle switch .

that might hold you over till you fix what needs fixed.

thanks Scott, but I acually just looked at the tc diagrams and saw the fuel pump relay integrated into that second computer took power from a fusible link that fed through the ign sw and came out in the form of several yellow wires.  I will take powerfrom there...  Never needed to add a fusible link in the first place!

Btw, I'm getting around to the software thing!

But if you had not, you could be looking at a pile of ashes now...

No, I just meant I didn't need to add one because the car already had one in a circuit for the fuel pump.  I just didn't realize it because of the way the relay was integrated into a computer.  I'd never just go without one!
