ok you buttstuff restoration people--hope there is more than me
-what did the original oil filter look like on the 86-88 cars-
FL1A- motorcraft embossed on the end or not--painted grey
or not? any clues.mike negus on the fep site started this.
anyone got a ruling for the fox years.--irv
-my '87 has a gray painted short 1-a(FL300) because of the oil cooler. has the embossed nib/line/bumps around the edge on the bottom but nothing else on it....
AFAIK on the Fox cars it should be a grey FL-1 filter (should be all engines). My buddy had the same one on his '92 Mustang that he ordered.
FL-1 or 1-A? is motorcraft reverse embossed on the end?
I'll have to ask him the next time I talk to him. He's still got it.
Turbo Coupes with the oil cooler ALL use the short filter... The longer FL-1 will not fit in the space...
Of course if you swap in a 5.0, the FL-1 is no problem...
irv,
Between this ad on craigslist for the 800 mile engine with the original gray painted filter:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/pts/717553767.html
And the original filter from this 1991 engine shown on this ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Thunderbird-Turbo-Coupe-1987-THUNDERBIRD-TURBO-COUPE-STUNNING-V8-5000-MILES_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6240QQihZ006QQitemZ160250429903QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
I would say that the V8 filter would have been painted gray with the Motorcraft letters embossed on it.
I think the elimination of the embossed letters is a fairly recent thing.
