Title: 5.0 Intake Gasket
Post by: GREYSHADOW on June 12, 2008, 05:33:20 AM
Is there supposed to be any sort of gasket between the upper manifold and lower on a 86-88 302 FI?

Books I read say yes, but personally, I have never seen one.

If so.. will not having one effect anything?

Thanks

Yes,there's a gasket that goes between the upper and lower. No sealant, just the gasket.without it,vacuum leaks.

^not always, vin.  my buddy has a built mustang and it has no gasket there, and no problems.  I personally use it but have used only one gasket before when I swapped in a spacer.

...and maybe he's got an aftermarket intake with machined surfaces, perhaps?

Even then, I'd use one.  You'd be surprised how bad the vacuum leaks could be on an upper that's been pulled a few times and has no gasket.

I've run my Cobra upper without a gasket... It did idle a bit high, so no doubt had some vac leak... Still with re-set idle, I couldn't tell any difference in operation...

Thanks..

I'll be installing one. Just wish I would have done it while I had the fugger apart a few weeks ago.:punchballs:

I have ran without one on my Cobra intake on my 92'. I guess the intake your using makes a difference.
