Title: 351W into 87 TC, can I use 3.8 accessories
Post by: HAVI on June 11, 2008, 09:50:59 PM
As I'm parting down the black 88 Tbird, I got to wondering what I should keep to make putting the 351W into the 87 TC easier and cheaper.  The 88 has the 3.8.  I'm wondering, radiator?, PS pump and bracket, etc...?

351W is from a 76 Torino.

You may get by with the radiator, but you can forget the Esshag accessory brackets fitting a 351... In fact, do to being taller than a 5.0, the big Windsor requires a unique P/S bracket to mount the pump...

as far as the radiator.I tried using the one from the 3.8 when I did my 302 swap and it was fine,as long as you kept moving,if you stop for any period of time, the temp rises.

although they used the same radiators for the 3.8 and 302 ,my 302 was not comfortable with it.

I just installed a heavy duty OEM fit radiator in mine,I will see how it preforms after I hook up the tranny lines.

Make sure you have good fan and shroud that pulls air through the core at idle.
