Well guys, it took some time to finish but one of my ex-students, I'm a high school teacher, painted my Mom's Cougar for 1000.00. He smoothed out all the dings and did a complete paint job except for the engine compartment. Note, this is only his second paint job done solo, so I think it's a great job for a 20 year old kid. I like his work so much he will be painting my 88 Mark 7 BB next. Check it out. Before and after.

Wow that almost looks like mach 1 red. Whats the color called?
And whats up with the bird nose?
I'm not sure what the color is called. I picked it out from one of his books. I'll check and let you know. As for the nose, I have no idea what's up with that. The car came that way when we purchased it back in 96.
LJS30, Pretty sharp is your mom happy with it? Thanks for the updated photo's also and she'll be noticed with that shiny (Cat) everywhere.
wow, looks good...
Oh yea, she is very satisfied with the work. Next is the engine and transmission. I know I went out of the normal restoration sequence by getting the paint done first. However, my paint guy is also going to culinary school so you never know how long he'll want to keep doing this type of work.
looks very slick!
The original color looks to have more blue, making it burgundy or purple-ish while the new color seems to tend towards an orange. The camera can mislead, is that a trickly color to photograph or reality?
looks good. I think you should paint the bumpers red as well. It just looks wrong without the trim.
The original red was sort of a darker red while this new paint is a brighter red if that makes any sense.
Well that's a personal taste issue. Some love the stock trim look while I loved the clean look. I gave my Mother the option though and she chose to leave the trim off.
Wow, what a difference. I cannot w a i t to get mine painted now.
My only question.... cougar in the back.... tbird grill . . . ? I always wondered what that would look like.
Are there any other plans for the car? Rims, Tinted vinders, etc.? Keep us posted on any progress. I just love to see something like this; she'll be enjoyed for years to come.
Well, the next thing is engine and transmission work. The engine runs well but leaks from every gasket imaginable. The transmission leaks about a quart a week but shifts well.
Looks good, too red for me. Being 20 and an Auto Body Tech I love repainting a whole car and comparing. He forgot to mask off the tailpipe though haha. I need to post pics of some of the stuff I work on daily, i work in a GM Dealership.
Yes it's too red for me also. However you must remember, this is for my sixty three year old Mother. She is absolutely in love with any color of red. In fact the more red the better. As for the tail pipe I told the guy not to bother since it will be chromed soon. :D
Thats a good looking paint job anyone could be proud of. Also that color of red looks very nice kinda of looks like something you see on a Benz or BMW.
yeah looks like the old Beamer red
Looks good!
It may be out of sequence but this will be more incentive to get the engine and tranny done so it can be shown off more often! lol
