I bid on something and it was a starting bid of $.99 so I put in a max bid of $4.
it used to be that my bid would show as the $.99 and if someone else bid, it would automatically keep bidding up to my $4 bid. However, the item is showing as only having my bid on it and the current bid price is $4.
So, I can't figure out why it's at $4 when there are no other bids.
Anyone know why?
is there a reserve? maybe if there is a reserve and you havent hit it yet, they will show max bid?
try logging out and looking at it. maybe you are seeing the max because you are logged in and it is showing your max
I don't know, the reserve idea sounds plausable.
About 3 days ago I bid on an AK47 bayonet. It didn't show my max bid until I got outbid. It held at $.99 for a whole day.
It has been a while since I bid on anything with a reserve.
Nope, no reserve (and I have bid on things with reserve before and it never showed my mas bid.)
Now, the only other thing is, there were 2 of this item available and I put in my bid to buy both if I win, but, I have even done that before and it always went to the lowest bid needed.
Ok, I signed out of e-bay and went and checked on it, and it still says it's for the $4. When I clicked on the "place bid" link, it brought up the bidding area, and it showed where you would put your maximum bid in. However, I didn't want to increase my maximum bid because I don't want it to increase my bid when I am the only one bidding on it.
It still works as always for me.Look up the item without logging in to Ebay and see what it shows.
Mabye look up bid history on the item. Mabye someone entered a bid while you were...
I signed out and checked it but it showed it as the $4.
I also looked at the bid history and I am the only bidder so far.
Minimum bid multiplier?
must be with seller's settings...
Well, I finally found my answer.... and this makes me mad because I never saw this before, nor did they put it there before I bod on it....but now I know.
From e-bay:
So, I guess I am stuck paying what my highest bid was, unless someone out bids me on it. *sigh* Had I known it wouldn't do the auto-bidding for me, I would have only put a max bid of the starting price. This sucks, but I guess I am stuck with it.
You could probably withdraw your bid and buy it later for $.99, but for $4, I think I would just consider a relatively cheap lesson learned. Plus, you have the satisfaction of knowing you trained all of us on some of the lessor known workings of EvilBay. I, for one, thank you. :-)
I e-mailed the seller and explained the situation to see if they would mutually retract the bid (I've never retracted a bid before and I have 100% good feedback.). So, I am waiting to hear from them about it.
I just got a message from the seller and they said if I am the only bidder, they will adjust the price for me.
