Title: Dash Modification
Post by: Blackout on May 23, 2008, 11:13:55 AM
Hello all,

I've finally decided to put the dash cap i bought on, and I now have a cool idea.  You know those triple guage pods for 05-07 mustangs?  I'm going to have my local stereo shop flesh it into the actual dash cap for me, so I can do away with the a-pillar mount.  I think this will be a bit easier to deal with, as well as easier to run the wiring/tubes/lights to.

What do you all think??

Heres a pic of the pod I'll be using:

[puts away magnifying glass]  Where are you thinking about locating it?

I would think that the only place it would work is right on top in front of the driver. The rest of the dash goes down hill.

I would be interesed in hearing how the dash cap install goes.  I purchased one and want as much info as I can prior to messing with it.  I have already been out to COOLCATS that has a bunch of great instructions, but it is always beneficial to hear from others as well.

Thanks!

Its going to be centered above the center stack in the vehicle.  It will be contoured to fit right....plus the gauges look like they angle towards the driver.  If need be, we can build up the one side so it sits a bit more level.

Yup, there's surprisingly little room between the dash and windshield.  Be sure to post pics when you're done.

It would be nice if you could get that to work. Otherwise you'll have to resort to this.

It turned out alright, but I did have to, ahem, "modify" my factory trim. I'd really like to see how the dash pod turns out on your car.

Also I would think if you took a pillar one and threw it onto the dash the angles wouldnt be to far off, but I'm not sure.

What gague pods will fit on our cars? I bought a single pod on ebay, and would like to by another single, but I am not sure what it came out of. What have you guys used?

You will probably need to look for Mustang/Capri applications.  Similar yet different in the most inconvenient ways.

Here's a better pic.  Not the exact same one, but it gives the idea.....

Thanks.

I think it would be relatively easy to mold into the dash ( My buddy has so MAD fiberglass skills).

I'll post pics when i get them!

83-86

A piller pods from 1994-2004 Mustang

http://www.coolcats.net/modifying/gauges.html

for 87- 88

the same will work but cool cats also says that these will work

coolcats-

Again, adding a 1994-up Mustang A-pillar bolt-on pod will work. For 1987-88 cars, Geno over at Lincoln Motorsport has engineered a double-pod Lincoln Mark VII A-pillar replacement panel that is a direct fit in your interior. You will have to get yourself a filler panel for over the driver's door, found easily at the boneyard from a 1983-86 Cougar or Thunderbird. And you will have to (carefully) drill one hole in the roof panel to mount the LMS panel. Fit and finish is reported to be good, and the grain perfectly matches your interior. You will need to paint the panel though. And triple pods are not available. Still, this is a very slick, custom way to mount 2" or 2-1/16" gauges in style and keep them in your line of sight, where they're needed most. Just think: a full digital dash with digital gauges stuck on your A-pillar...too cool.
