Title: Stalling problem
Post by: jpc647 on May 23, 2008, 07:31:32 AM
When I got out to my car after its been sitting for a while and crank it over, it cranks over 5-6 times, starts and the immediatly dies. However if i give it some gas right after is starts it usually will stay running.  If i try and start it again, it starts first crank, and idles high as it should. Anyone have any ideas on what could cause this?

I thought fuel injection was supposed to cure problems like this. :(

This is the '88 3.8 T-Bird correct?
First thing would be to check if there are any error codes like already mentioned. There's info on how to check them in this thread (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=2984")

You can do a quick visual check to make sure all of your vacuum hoses are intact and not cracked or broken as that can cause the car to stall on initial start-up. I had a similar problem with my car stalling on it's first start-up and it was a rubber hose that was split.
