I got a call from a couple who s cars for a living, and said they have an '85 Thunderbird.I asked which engine, they didn't know. They said it had a floor shifter and fog lights....Turbo Coupe !!! Anyway, they want to s the body (sorry),and I can have what i want to sell as long as they get half.Fine with me.The fog lights are broken and the inner seatbelts are bad.It is an auto equipped car with red interior. It has a manual seat track (I was told all of this after I asked a lot of questions). If anyone needs or wants anything, list it here, and I'll do what I can Wednesday morning. They also got an Eddie Bauer Explorer.I'm hoping it has a 5.0 !!!!!!!!! I'll be having those heads and intake for sure.......IF it has the 5.0.
Vinnie: Do the 85's have the same interior door panels as an 88? I'm looking for unbroken red map pockets. If they aren't in really good shape, forget about it.
Thanks,
Rick
No problem.I'll be all over it tomorrow morning first thing.
good steering wheel,full control.
Believe me,if it's usable, and I can remove it,it's coming with me......as long as it can fit in the trunk of the Sport.Even if it has to hang out, like the TC bumper cover.I'll post here tomorrow with the findings. My hopes are more with the Explorer than the TC.I want the heads and intake.....if it's a 5.0.Otherwise,who cares.LOL.
It wouldn't happen to have 10 holes with T-bird centers would it? If so I might be interested but shipping would probably be :nannerbang: high.
Vinnie, will you check the metal trim piece for the right taillight? If it's dent free, I'd be interested in it. And I'll stand in line behind Thunderjet on those 10-holes.
Actually,it does have 10 holes with the caps.I'd guess about $225.00 for the wheels and caps shipped.I know it seems high, but wheels are a be-yotch to deal with.I'm usually pretty cheap on parts,but.........
I'll be pulling the taillights. The 10 holes are probably going to be around $225 shipped.with the caps.I'll have a detailed list when i get home.I woke up to rain this fine car parts pulling morning, and it's slowly going east of us here. When it's done raining,I'll be there with the trusty tool box.Stay tuned for the REST of the story.
For 1985 For Thunderbird Base - Canyon Red
Door lock switches - right and left
Seat belts next to seats - red preferred, but can dye. Good shape of course.
Door trim piece, please refer to attched picture. Red preferred, but can dye. Both sides if available.
Need "plastic & brush" piece missing from behind inside door handle too.
O.K.,here's the scoop..........
The car had manual door locks, and manual seats. The map pockets and most of the interior is bad.The fog lights were smashed up,the front bumper cover was .The ten holes actually look really nice.It has a 7.5 trear with quad shocks.I'll pull those later.I pulled the following parts....
-headlight and fog light switches
-full length red console
-steering wheel
-"turbo" valve cover
-IAC
-taillights
-Manual driver side seat track
-above the stereo cubby
Vinnie,
Is it a floor shift auto? I'd like to change my car from a column shift to a floor shift, but I'm not sure of everything that's needed.
The TC shifter is different then the V-8 shifter. You need one from a V-8 car, along with the right shift cable and bracket.
Thanks Vinnie. I'll find one eventually.
Check around the classifieds.I think there's a post by Kitz that has one for sell.If I'm wrong, keep looking, there was someone who had two of them.Cheap also. Those can be expensive as they are becoming really hard to find.
The ten holes are in very, very nice shape, with the caps. They would be $250.00 shipped.
Vin: How much for the console? Pics? Is it in "excellant" shape?
PM or email me: gtbird50@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Rick
I'll try to get a console pic for you. It's in pretty nice shape. The storage part needs a little cleaning, and the lid also needs a little help.I will try to get a pic, then we can work from there.
The automatic 1983-86 turbo cars used a C3 trans with no overdrive. Their shift pattern was PRND21 - 6 detentes. That pattern will work on AOD (PRN(D)D1) and C5 (PRND21) cars, therefore the shifter itself could probably be used. The cable does seem to be different, though. I had a C3 shifter at one point and the cable looked to me like it could be adapted to fit onto an AOD shift lever. But I don't have any proof to back that up.
Anyway, it's the 1987-88 automatic TC floor shifters that you have to avoid for AOD/C5 cars...they have 7 detentes: PRN(D)D21.
Ivygreen, see here for info:
AOD - http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/floorshift_aod.html
C5 - http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/floorshift_c5.html
The AOD instructions came from my experience in converting my own '86 over from column to floor shift. There's a PDF of the template you need to cut a hole in the floorpan. Not really that hard to do, just scary LOL.
Sorry for the hijack...now back to your regularly-scheduled thread...
Geez, Eric, that's great. You saved me an awful lot of guesswork. Thank you.
Actually E-Man the 83 84 TC's used a shifter with the same 6 detents but with no cable. It had a rod attached directly to the bottom of the shift lever that went to the shift lever on the transmission. In the 83-84 TC's the transmission shift lever pointed up like the column shift cars do.
Yeah, that's right Claude. I never had the opportunity to obtain 1983-84 TC shifter parts but I do recall them being rod-activated. The parts I had were 1985-86 TC with the cable attached. It seemed weird to me that Ford would engineer different brackets, cables, etc. for the different cars, rather than work from one standard shifter. It would make retrofitting parts now a lot easier. Then again, why would Ford think of us.
Vinnie, did you get a chance to check the taillight trim?
If you are comming to CatJam, I would be interested in the tail light lenses. :oldcougar:
I got both taillights. The metal trim looks to be good. The lenses are also in nice shape.PM me about the metal trim.
