Title: 86' 3.8 wont run
Post by: dw43935 on May 18, 2008, 04:17:59 PM
STUPID ASS mistake of the day! While attempting to retrieve codes from my bird today, I had the test light connected to the batt. pos. For some odd reason that I can't even explain, I touched the wrong pin on the test connector. I touched the fuel pump pin, it caused a small arc & now the car wont start at all. Any suggestions on what I may have screwed up? Thanks.

Can you here the fuel pump run for two seconds with the ignition in run?
If so, that part of the EEC is working.
If not, jumper the fuel pump wire at the test plug to ground. Does the fuel pump run continuously with the ignition in run?
If so, looks like you damaged the EEC.
See if it will run with the jumper on.

I'm not sure if the pump runs for 2 sec. with ignition in run. Too much noise from the street & no help so I could get close to the tank to listen. And yes the pump will run when I ground the test plug, but the engine still wont start. Luckily, I have an extra EEC, but it's in my brothers garage. Hopefully I can find the time to go get it before next weekend. I had a feeling that's what happened. thank's for the help guy's.
