What's the thing in the front of my radiator in my '86 T-5 TC?
Grill?
Bumper?
I/C?
A/C condensor?
Guess I should've been more specific. I think I'm talking about the A/C condensor -- the wide thing with fins. What happens if I remove this?
Your AC no longer functions. If it even does now.
Not like I ever use it... I'm trying to get more air to my radiator.
with fitting modifications, it makes one helava transmission cooler.
People with automatics could reduce the radiator average temp by doing this, or delete the condensor and use a jy cooler. They all look pretty much the same.
Are you having overheating problems? There's a lot of things you can do and check to try to get air to the radiator without removing the a/c condenser.
One thing to do, is make sure all of the rubber "flaps" that surround the radiator are in place. Those force air to go into the radiator, rather than around it.
Another thing is to make sure your airdam is in good shape, or upgrade it. I'm not familiar with the 4-eyes bumper, but this should give you some inspiration on upgrading:

The corral thread shows a bunch of different setups and different air dams that have been used.
Something else you can do, is get a nice fan shroud and electric fan. The fan shroud makes any electric fan much more efficient.
I have a hard time believing the A/C condensor is causing overheating problems. If you're looking to simpify, that's one thing. If you've got a temp problem, you've got another issue that needs to be addressed.
A TC can idle all day with the A/C in a Texas summer and not overheat.
One thing you should know, it will get really freakin' hot before the fan kicks in, or so said the guy at the stealership.
It's not overheating, but I haven't had it out in hot weather yet. I have a FMIC right in front of the radiator with a 16" puller fan.
if it didn't overheat before, it shouldn't now. I think mine might have actually dropped in temp running down the road with the fmic in front of it all
