For a fairly stock TC that is. I might try to get a few runs in this friday. Just wondering what you guys would do for launching and such.
My suspension is pretty well worn except for the firm side of the PRC shocks and struts. I read about running the fronts in soft and rears in firm to help launch.
What would you guys do for launching? Should I be dumping the clutch and hope for a decent launch or let the clutch out a little more slowly as if driving on the street? The first time I ran the car I was dumping the clutch, and I only was able to get a 2.48 60 footer. I would think letting the clutch out a bit slowly would help build some boost as well. Ill also be on my street tires (Fuzion HRI) so I dont wanna just dump and burn them off.
I can't speak from a TC standpoint, but I've run a few different manuals at the tracks. What I've found best to do is let the clutch out slowly, but at the same time quickly. In other words, don't granny release it so that it fries it, but at the same time, don't dump it entirely. Think along the lines of you only have a couple seconds to make a turn onto a street, and it's your only chance for another 20 cars each direction.
HTH.
The way I do it, is when your slipping the clutch, give it gas and come off the clutch, while keeping the engine at 3K rpms. It takes a lot of practice, and it does abuse the clutch, but it works very well once you get it.
put some 26-10's on it leave at 6k dont let up...
otherwise you will cry at the times.
It takes a bit of practice(Lots) but I've been drag racing for several years. The TC is on the complete other side of the ladder compared to launching a 5200# truck with about 500#tq, lol. The method I was using that seemed to work pretty well last time I went was stage the car, then mat the pedal when the first yellow comes on, that gets it to about 3500 when the last yellow comes on. Then let the clutch out so it starts to grab, but make sure it slips till you get about 8-10psi which comes pretty quick(cause I still got the dumb ihi) thats probably there by the time you make it to the tree. Then just go for broke, lol. That method got me a 2.04 60' and 3 2.1x 60's out of 7 runs. the others were at the beginning where I forgot what I needed to do to get it to launch. First run was a 2.74, second 2.45, and third 2.35. Definately not the rev to 5K and dump it method like the truck, brad. How'd you do anyway??
Im gonna post a thread about my experience.
