Title: Weighed the TC tonight...
Post by: Blackout on May 09, 2008, 01:27:52 AM
On a whim i weighed the tc tonight.  without me and with a quarter tank of fuel it came in at 3275lbs.

Not too bad.....less than I thought.

Full option minus the auto trans.    oh...and all the ac stuff out.

Not bad for an 88. From what I understand, they usually come in about 100lb heavier.

I weighed my 87 Sport before I had done anything to it other then 16" Enkei mesh wheels. Half tank of gas 3330lbs. Not sure if it included me though. If so, I weighed about 200 then.
Even without me in it, that's not bad.
I hope next one will finish a little lighter.

Same here.  That was also with a 45LB sub box in the trunk along with assorted tools.  So its on the low 3200's I'd guess without all the .

What did you weight it with?

Truck Scale, Calibrated correctly.  It had my actual weight down within 3 lbs, so it was pretty accurate.

I used a truck scale at a propane company. They were supposed to be accurate as that is how they tracked their trucks.
I was never sure if the lady weighed while I was in the car though, as I pulled up and waved while my buddy went in and asked her to weigh it. She did something and then waved me in and handed me the receipt. So did she weigh while I was sitting there, or while I was walking inside the office.
I would have had the small spare and jack in the car. No other tools or non-stock radio stuff.

You know, these weights really put into perspective the newer cars coming out. T-birds were decent-sized cars, yet weighed 3200-ish pounds. My 66 Mustang weighs about 2800.
New Mustangs, etc are close to 4000. And then everyone complains about fuel economy.....
You would think, with the newer technology, that cars would weigh 2500 pounds or less in this modern era.....

There were a few of us that decided to weigh our cars last night

The New GT that was with us weighed in at 3480  with a 1/4 tank and no spare.  it was the heaviest car there by far.

The orange Roush only weighed 3160
The 350Z Weighed 3320
The Evo weighed 3180

LOL My 88 TC weighs less than a 350Z LOL  I thought that was funny.

Mine weighed 3530 without me (3700 with me) using the race track scale a few years back. 1/4 tank gas.

I always call my car a pig - and it is on the plump side for a Fox vehicle, so I find it almost mind-boggling that the new 'Stangs weigh the same - and they are a "weight-reduced" SN95!!

How much have things really changed (this is a rhetorical question ;) )?
