Well, if I end up running into problems, I plan on not wiring up the Neutral Safety switch and Clutch interlock switch...will that create any issues?...other than being able to start it without hitting the clutch.
Thanks,
Don
nope
I don't have mine anymore...no problems.
thanks guys, I didn't think there'd be any problems...but it's always nice to get a second or third opinion sometimes.
Thanks again,
Don
I have mine jumpered just as you said. Works fine.
At least wire the neutral safety wires to the switch on the tranny so it doesn't start in gear. That shouldn't take more than a whole 2 minutes ;)
Believe it or not, I'm having a hell of a time finding a proper neutral safety switch...If it starts in gear, so what? I think I know better...lol. It's a force of habit for me everytime I get into a stick car...hit the clutch, throw it in neutral, then hit the key.
Plus if I ever break down, I can still move the car easily until the starter or battery quits...lmao.

I plan to wire it up correctly soon. The sole reason being I routinely bump over the engine at the solenoid using a screwdriver. The last thing I need is to crank it over in gear by accident and run my own a$$ over.
But for now, it only sits awaiting a paint job. I don't drive it nor work on the engine.
Mine has the switch (and my clutch assembly also has a switch). I cant seem to find the correct connector for the NSS though. I plan on just wiring it through the clutch switch.
The switch won't save you from this.
+1 If you're gonna jump the solenoid you'll have to make sure it's in neutral first.
Solenoid? whats that?
It's also called the starter relay.

Excellent point. I wasn't really thinking. I guess it really doesn't matter then. Lately I haven't been thinking things through all the way.
BTW. Nice Project Bob!
LOL, I don't have one of them
Or an engine. :hick:
LOL, I'll have that very soon :) :burnout: can't wait..
I assume it must not be very hard to swap a 5 speed into these cars then? Im going to do the swap in my 86 xr7 auto in the near future.
the 5.0l cougars and Thunderbirds are the easiest to swap to a T5. I will be doing this swap very soon to my '88 XR-7
I'm hoping to have mine in soon as well, but,I bought two wheels, and a few other parts,SO,that took the clutch and flywheel money,SO,another delay.
