Title: Wooohoooo! Got a new job!
Post by: Dare on March 07, 2005, 12:59:32 PM
You may now address me as Officer Dare!  As I am now an employee of the I.D.O.C!  Starting out at $12.99 an hour. All the overtime I want, medical, dental, vision. Hell yeah! Its Modding time!  Only bad thing is, I gotta be on my best behavior now. Can't get into any fights, no tickets or anything like that. Can't miss any work or be late for 6 months (of course, I've only called in sick for work maybe twice in the past 4 years! so thats no problem)

But I start the 21st, so no more pizza for me!    :D

Glad ya got something you're happy about, but my advice is to watch yourself. I know two guys who did the whole corrections thing, (one has been a friend for over 20 years now, the other is an equally long-time friend of the first guy) and it screws with your head. Won't go into details, but let's just say that for one of them, it involved (at the end) a nice little state-mandated 3 day vacation. Put the term "Baker Act" into Google if you wanna know more.

Plus, I don't know about up there, but down here I've heard the local cops really don't like the corrections people. Not sure if something like that would bother ya.

You think Toledo is bad?  Toledo is practically a commercial mecca compared to Youngstown.  Try coming here and finding a job!

PS - Congrats Dare... how will you get used to not having cash tips every night?

Yeah,  I gotta get used to that.  For the past 3.5  years I can't think of a day where I didn't have at least 1 dollar in my wallet.  I'm gonna have to get used to makeing it last for 2 weeks.

yeah, well once sombody mistook their $100 bill for a $20, so I made $80 off of that delivery alone :p
hell, $40 is a remarkable day for me. I need to stop working at the ghetto places and go uptown, to the million dollar homes :D

I tell ya what man,  I miss 2002 and my 96 tbird!  I made so much money that year that if I made it every year,  I'd be staying at PJ's. I was making like $150 a night in tips.  From about mid December to about mid Jan 2002 I made over $4000!  I put all of my money in my safe.  I had this big ole Pimp sized stack of cash!  I miss them days!

I tell ya what,  and I'm not just tooting my own horn cause corporate has even told me this,  I'm one of the best drivers in the state.  Sadly,  all it cost me to get where I am is a lot of wrecks,  a car,  and having my insurence rates go through the roof cause they consider me a bad defensive drivers!  even though not one (knock on wood)  wreck was ever my fault.

If you're in a good nieghbor hood,  Is a great job to have.  You always got money.  In the past 3.5 years I can't think of one day where I didn't at least have a dollar to my name.

That's cold Zypro, you know they didn't mean to give you a $100 bill and I wouldn't go posting that your morals are so low that you didn't bring it to their attention or return it. Congrats dare, hope you like it. Jobs are so scarce around here, I've considered being a jailor down at the county jail. Got an interview for a production manager tommorow though so hopefully that goes well

Ifixyawata toledo is turning into another youngstown i have had relatives that used to live in youngstown, and no offense meant but it sucks there. Alot of the jobs are leaving toledo, Last october i was working at an industrial company called Rondsfelt associates, Making 9 bucks an hour. Well near the end of october they tell us the 2 biggest dyes that we worked with were moving to mexico.

Ditto on the classes.  Should you decide to relocate in the future the fact that you are already certified in certain things (EMT, Hazmat....) may help in the salary area as well as career movement.

I guess I forgot to say that I didn't notice myself 'til I was back at the store. We're supposed to put our money in these little drop boxes after every run. well we also get bitched at if we don't get in and out. so I had about 3 runs (about 6 orders) in my pocket when I finally dropped it in the box.
and I'll have you know I DID try to return it. I thought it maybe had come from my last delivery, a couple of families in a motel 6. I knew I'd be pissed if I lost 80 bucks to some pizza guy, so I went back on my next run (went to the same  motel 3 times in a row) and asked them if they had mistakenly given me a bill other than a $20. I didn't go around and ask "Did you give me a $100 instead of a $20?" cuz that's just asking for some lying asshole to be like "Oh, yeah, I sure did!" They said they didn't bring anything larger than a $20 with them, so it wasn't theirs. I wasn't about to waste my time going to each and every house I had delivered to throughout the night all across town and ask if they had given me a 100. if they noticed, they would have called the store, the managers would see that I took the delivery and they'd say something about it.
so  :flip:

I've had a few times where I've gotten the wrong bill,  a couple times old people would give me a $100 thinking it was a $10.  I'd always tell them.  Couple times I had people that were total assholes do the same thing.  alll I can say is,  $90 tips are nice!  hahaha!
