Since I've got twins, they need some kind of ID.  I've been thinking about "Rudolph" for the one getting rebuilt, or "red" and "blue" based on the volvo valve cover color.  Right now they're "the old one" and "the new one".

Cougar A - 87 LS 3.8V6
Cougar B - 87 LS 3.8V6
Cougar X - 88 XR7 5.0V8
Salt - 88 Base TBird 3.8LV6
Pepper - 88 Thunderbird 5.0LV8

Not that I enjoy picking on letters of the alphabet... the first two cougars I've owned are A and B.  However, it wasn't until after B arrived, and my old man started referring to her as The Brown Cougar, or Cougar Brown.... so B stuck and A followed suite.

I'll never own a Cougar C (unless I find a 1967 Cougar ;) )

So it made sense for X.

And only SaltNPepper knows the full story about Salt and Pepper :hick:

I did at one time :hick:

I got a LOT of flack for it, but I had FOUR Red 1988 Turbo Coupes at the same time (plus a Red 87 just to mess with things) so it was really hard to make it clear which one I was working on.

They all got named for songs playing on the radio on the day we decided to name them.

Apparently that wasn't "cool" with the internet tough guys but screw them.

Now it's "the cop car" or "the P71" or "the 'Vic" or "the cruiser" or "Car #202" for the Crown Vic Police Interceptor.
The RX-7 is either "the RX-7" or "blinky" depending on who's asking.
The Grand Prix is "the GTONO" as in "GTO, no" because John has a GTO and the GP is a "GT" (as opposed to the blown "GTP"). Hard to explain, but it just kinda stuck.

I think Ford did a good enough job naming the cars for us.

88 Fast T-bird
95 Slow T-bird

Easy enough so people know which one I'm talking about.

I never understood the why people feel the need to name their cars, or even their boats.
I can understand feeling emotionally attached to something like a car; but to name it just seems wierd to me.

I named my first car (Bertha) and even occasionally referred to my second car by name (Freakin'), but none after that. I was 16/17, so I plead not guilty by reason of youthful stupidity. Now I just refer to my cars by what they are (The "T-Bird", the "Saturn", and the "Truck").

Oh, wait, I also called my old '82 Toyota 4X4 the "Bawg Hawg", but that's because it had a windshield decal saying so before I bought it.

I never did, until I found myself the owner of two '88 Cougar XR-7s. Both white with red interior. Had to name them to save confusion.

I still have Eliminator, I'll still have it when I die.
I sold Catnap to CougarSE and bought an '86 XR-7 from CougarCrager which has been dubbed Turbokitty.

I don't name them, they either make a name for themselves, or someone else names them.  In that regard, my lifted '78 f150:  Unroadworthy(someone fingered it into the dirt on the door in the school parking lot) AKA big orange (because they're both true, lol).  My '48 F1: skeletor (named by a FTE member cuz it's a skeleton of a truck)  my other '48 F1: green mbuttstuffishi (Judas Priest was on the xm radio when we were taking it home, and since it was green...)  The 88 tbird, well everyone called it the thunderchicken, but I think every beat up tbird gets that name.  The 87 TC has been called several things, like POS (wife), project car, etc...  With over a dozen cars and trucks in the yard, it gets difficult at times to name them or call them by make and model.

The 85 Thunderbird was the first car I purchased myself as a sophomore in high school.

I named her "Sweetness". . . . . just becasue she was such a SWEET ride.

I even took lettering and spelled out sweetness on the sun roof.  I had never removed them.... until I recently pulled the car out of a 10 year storage.  Once I removed the lettering from the sunroof, somehow they messed up the tint, and are now permanently shown on the sunroof glass.

Why are some for naming and others against it?

I can see the logic of naming cars that are of the same or similar type, i.e. the five cars sitting on our lot...

But why are some of you totally against it?  Just wondering...

I learned along time ago never name a car after a girlfriend or a wife. Sooner or later they might end up being an EX. Unless of course the car is a bitch and so is your ex

My friends find it hilarious to give peoples cars rediculous names so I think of one that is more suiting. For instance my friends Sunfire was dubbed Silvia The Super Seductive Slut. For unknown reasons. I just pick simple names, the Coug is Curtis because my Uncle who owned it and was killed and thats how I got the car. My truck in the Black Knight, its black and we used it as a CB handle. The car is Black Out(BLK OUT) because Im going to have black Angel Eye/Halo headlights and tinted fogs, reverse and tailights and because its a kickass name from Transformers lol, that was just a joke.

I call the 86' "The Bird" although my wife refers to it as "The Ford POS" ,I call my Durango "The Beast" , I call my Tempo either "The Little Putt-putt" or "The Tank"(for winter driving reasons)
