Well Hello All Im Thomas....
I have a 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe... and my girl is having issues... bought it used Major vacuum Leak.... Boost gauge and BAP sensor.... I cant seem to find the correct routing for the vacuum system..... When I bought it it had some issues... It kinda ran... I had to floor the pedal to get it to go 45 MPH... and had a overheating issue... but that was thermostat.... fixed the overheating.. i think if i can get the car running long enough to get a temperature.... I really need a simple Vac diagram for a 88 T bird Turbo.......
Any help would be appreciated....
Also my car will run with my foot on the gas 24/7 but when i let off it stalls out..... i think its timing but im not to sure...
I do not know much about the T-Bird Turbo Coupe... but perhaps, Helm Inc (http://www.helminc.com)...
That's where I went for 1988 info for the T-Bird LX and Base, aswell as the 88 Cougar XR7, and in the manuals, it does frequently refer to the Turbo Coupe.
I am talking about service or factory literature, aswell as the wiring and vacuum diagrams you speed of. Problem is, it's not free.
You could try e-bay, browse the net (there's quite a bit out there), or buy the book you seek.
But, I do agree with you..... when you discribe running the engine with your foot on the pedal; that sounds like timing.
Any error codes (i.e. check engine light on)?
no codes at all
I really need some help.. this Tbird is my lively hood.... been working on it all day and cant seem to get it running right..... still only doing 45, boost gauge not hooked up and vaccum lines messed up.. every diagram doesnt even show the BAP sensor at all.........
The computer has no codes in it?
sounds like it should be spitting out a lot of them.
idle speed below rmp should be in the codes if you have to keep you foot on the pedal, I would think.
turbobird....go to http://www.turbotbird
.com FAQ look for engine and under that is a vacuum diagram.
L24
so is there no MAP or BAP sensor on this car? according to that diagram there is no Map Sensor....
Im still having issues.. got the vacuum issues going alright now.... minus the boost guage vacuum hose... not to sure where to run it.... but it is Firing up... Idling and t hen stalling out... I have to keep my foot on the gas still to keep it running... it will Idle for about a minute or so before dying... So is this timing? and where does this 6 foot vacuum line run to in the dash somewhere?
The boost gage gets it's feed from a small line on the vacuum tree... If you have a really long hose, could be a add on for a manual remote boost controller... One of the TCs I had some years back had one(that I promptly sh** canned)...
Got any pictures???
There is no MAP sensor but there is a BAP sensor... It's supposed to be on the same bracket that mounts the relay controller... Black box between the VAM and strut tower...
Agreed...
where does that vacuum line run..... i have the hose..... i just gotta run it to the gauge... where is the instrument cluster boost gauge at....
Got my Tbird Running.... still overheats... but im replacing water pump tomorrow.... Yeah me....... But I have a gasket or seal leak.... :( But i still need help getting the vacuum gauge routed and running can anyone walk me through it? Oh yeah problem with my Tbird was a dead cell in the battery.... bad battery connection and a blown fusible link.... so if anyone has a problem like mine check those.... thanks for all the advice and help guys.... would have been lost without you....
Will up some pics in the morning... still havent figured out the BAP sensor either.. Vacuum schematic doesnt show it... what vac line does it feed off?
Later on today , i will locate the diagram in my shop manual if it actually exists. If it does, ill scan it in to here.
welcome aboard!!
the BAP doesnt get hooked up to vacuum at all.
BAP doesnt get hooked to vacuum? Barometric Air Pressure sensor....
