Title: Heres my sons 1st Bird
Post by: Dansbirds on April 27, 2008, 10:16:46 PM
Well here is a pic of my kids 83 Heritage. My first new one was a 83 many moons ago, here is also a pic of one of my 65's. His car needs a little work but it should be a fun father son project

I'll have to stop over some day to see you.
What year bird under the cover? I see some nice whitewalls over there

He was thrilled to get any car. Of course I felt it had to be a Bird. Under the cover in the other pic is another 65 Bird,it is a Special Landau. That one happens to be whimbeldon white. Of the 4500 they made only 200 were white while the rest were emberglo. I probably have the only garage with one of each sitting in it short of a museum or someother lunatic such as myself.

Looks good. Just ditch the wide white walls on it.

BTW that '70 T-bird needs some paint ;)

I have 1/4's for the 70 I just need to get off my arse and do it. As for the whitewalls my kid has already laid claim to my turbines, thats why I bought the 10 hole from the guy

When you get a chance maybe you could post some more pictures of the 83. Exterior, interior, engine, etc. It looks like a real clean car and being a fan of the 83's I like to check out any others I see.

What's the history on that car? Must have been well taken care of to be in that shape.

Of course pictures more pictures of the 65's would be nice too! :)

I've got a unique Tbird also....a 1956 Jr. ;)

Good luck on a great father/son project. Do you get down to the All Ford show in Carlisle PA?

I am putting a new headliner in the 83 now so once the interior is back together I will get somemore pics. As for history on the car, the guy I bought it from got it from his stepdad who bought it in 1987. It was his baby till his wife tangled with a deer, hence the dent in the fender and the different color header panel which I just replaced. It came from California originally and only has 77k on it now
Is your jr gas or electric? I met a guy last fall(when I bought the Silver Anniversary) and he has probably 20 of them various years some gas some electric. I want a 65 Jr but he didnt seem to keen on parting with it. I didnt make it to Carlisle last year but we have gone before.
I wish I had some pics of my 83, It was one of the first ones to come in, it was Raven Black with a red interior. It was ordered to match a Raven Black 57 Bird we had. Of course I was a young punk then and traded my 83 and some cash for a Corvette. Just what every 18 year old college kid needs.

Can't beat those CA cars!  It's amazing how clean some of them are but I guess not dealing with road salt helps!

Good luck w/ the headliner...make sure the backer board is absolutely clean before you install the new material or it will sag again real soon....trust me:shakehead  not something you want to do twice.

My 56 Jr's are both electric. If you have contact info for the guy w/ 20  of them I'd love to chat with him.

You had a matching pair of 57/83 Birds and you traded the 83 for a Vette and cash?????  :beatyoass:  That's just not right!:D

If you find any pictures..scan them and post them here too.

Good luck on the 'new' 83 and keep us posted...

I was going to do the headliner myself but the upholstry shop guy was willing to do it for what the material and glue would cost me so I took it out and let him do it. You have to give me a pass on the corvette deal as I was 18 at the time. We were actually at a Chebby dealer buying a 62 Caddy and my dad asked if I wanted to drive the vette and that was all it took so somehow indirectly I guess we could blame him. I will see if I can find the guys email address with the Jrs and pass it on to you. California cars are pretty well preserved but I was working on a 65 here from out in Nevada and other than all the soft weatherstrips being dried you could remove bolts nuts etc almost by hand so I guess there are a few decent areas to find cars from. I lived in FL for almost 20 years and down there they rust from the top down as all the salt in the air is on your car every am if it lives outside.

...Meanwhile us northeastern guys would pay through the nose for one of those "rusty" Florida cars - just look at the pics of daminc's Cougar in his "Project Evolution" thread to see what real rust is... *EDIT* I just noticed you live in NY - nevermind, you're likely already quite familiar with rust

Nice Heritage. I'd love to be able to find a nice four-eye 'Bird...
