Title: Ready to start the cat.
Post by: Superdavesds on April 23, 2008, 12:02:24 AM
Well I posted pics of the newly built engine and turbo. I put a batery in it and turned it over a couple cranks and got a goofy backfire from the exhaust and then the ol crank stall that you would get with extremly advanced timing. I quit there because I had a nasty fuel leak on the rail going to the number one injector. Whith all that being said, i am not ashamed to say I have never timed one of these. Only the dual spark ranger motor. I read through a lot of forums and used the string method. My auxilary shaft has no mark on it so I just turned the distributor till it pointed to number one and the lined the string up to the cam pully on center with the timing mark on center of the string. Oh yeah I brought # 1 to top dead center. Next question is I have all new O rings for my injectors and cant get them to all seal at the same time. Anyone have any tricks for this.

Can anyone tell me if I am going in the right direction here or is there something else I missed

Sounds like it's timed right.

It's more than likely the injector bodies themselves leaking and not the o-rings.

thanks for the reply. I had the number one sealed the first time and the #4 was leaking. I pulled it apart and put it back (without swapping injectors) and now the #1 leaks. Its a pretty steep angle on the fuel rail.

Not to ask a stupid question, but did you oil/grease/vaseline the o rings before you put them in?

OK, got the fuel leaks fixed, Got the timing figured out. Then all I had to do was put some good gas in it and vuala. Started right up for about a minute and then lost fuel pressure. I was able to get enough fuel to it to get it to start and run for a while but i think I found another small problem. Take a look at the pics.

How strong are those turbo motors?  Do they really make that car move?
