well, tomorrow I am going to go look at some snowflakes for my Cat. the ad says they are 16's. and they are from a Thunderbird. anyone have cougar centercaps they would like to swap? they are white, which i don't like, but i can paint them.
anyone know any specific paint brands that are tougher than average? when I have painted wheels in the past, I have had to repaint everyyear at least from chips.
Strip em then powdercoat em.
I'm trying the new wheel paints from Duplicolor.I have heard good things about them.Powdercoating would be the best way,but it's a little out of the budget for me.
me too, for now at least, I will check out that Duplicolor paint.
Something I am curious about, I haven't heard of these in 16's would that be off of a TC? or maybe I just haven't heard of them...lol
The '87/'88 Turbo Coupe snowflake wheels, like the ones pictured are 16's.They are really common, and sell pretty cheap.Nice looking wheels, though.
just picked them up. they are nice. they aren't white at all, which is good! are there any cougar center caps that were made that will fit these?
I have a set of the Cougar caps that will fit like they were made for them.I have 5 of them,$30.00 shipped in the lower 48.
Vinnie, how much is too much for you to pay for powdercoating? There's a place in Dallas that has pretty good prices.
ps sorry about the hi-jack
To me,it's worth what you're willing to pay.If it fits your budget, have them powder coat your parts. It'll last a long time, but on wheels, even powder coat is pr0ne to rock chips and such.A stone at 70 miles per hour can chip anything.I just finished painting the replacement Cobra R with Duplicolor wheel paint. It says it takes a week for the paint to cure,so,a week it will sit in the garage. After painting and clear,it looks as good as the mint one on the car.awesome stuff.
Yeah, I was asking about how much you'd be willing to spend. If you've already painted them, then no big deal.
I'll be dropping off window trim pieces pretty soon, I could find out how much they want if you're interested.
I'm good, but thanks.I had bought two wheels (used) from Ebay, and they were less than he described. One had curb rash,so,I started restoring it first. It looks just as good as brand new now.I have about $8.00 invested in the resto. Not too bad.Hopefully this week,I'll have the new exhaust tips and Flowmasters on.Oh man,I'm getting excited.I'll post pics of the tips. They are going to make everyone's jaw drop.I've kept them under wraps til they're installed.Hey,this has been a thread hi-jack.Sorry about that.Oh well,we're all family here.
hey no prob, accually i was curious about the same thing, so what the heck! Just curious though, how much would you say an average price would be on powder coating? i have been interested in it for a few things, but it sounds expensive.
Powdercoating prices vary. The only reason I mentioned it is because Vinnie is reasonably close to this one place. They're pretty good about pricing but I don't know how much they want.
SWAG for typical work would be $100+/wheel.
well, here they are! haven't had a chance to wash the car lately.
ok, so it's too blurry to tell the dirt anyway! lol... I hate my cell phone......
so now I notice my speedo is about 5 MPH off. Which I kind of expected, being that these are larger. is there any way to recalibrate the speedo for the difference? or would I have to get a speedo cable setup for a car with these factory? has anone done this?
A good method I have seen work well for painting rims is to use a scotch brite pad to prep then spray epoxy primer then use a thinly mixed roadgaurd coat. For those that aren't sure that is the slightly rough paint at the bottom of the doors/fenders to prevent rock chips. mix it thin and it will not be noticably rough then paint. We used a basecoat clearcoat teh same as the body.
I think you just have to change the speedo gear but I have not done that. You could compensate by getting a lower profile tire!
Thats what I did with my Exploder when I went to 20".
Looks super nice on that cougar in fact thats the only cougar i have seen that looks good with those rims.
Yep just use a scotch brite, some wax and grease remover and have at it. Duplicolor is what I used on some polycast wheels I have on mine now. Nice stuff really.
