Title: Got a free mark 7 engine for my bird
Post by: nutwagon on April 17, 2008, 06:26:09 PM
After I blew up my standard 5.0, somebody I know has alot of fox bodies he sent to the yard, and he gave me a 1990 mark 7 for parts on my tbird. What kind of axle ratio is on the 90 marks? would the air bags fit the bird? Thing only has 60k miles on it. I think this is the best score I ever found lol. The thing run for a sure. He moved it around the lot a few times. will have pics maybe this weekend when I pull the engine. :burnout:

Don't waste your time on any of the air suspension parts...they're all junk...that's why you see so many Mark VII's with the nose or tail(or both in some cases) in the weeds...most Mark owners replace the air suspension with regular coils, shocks, and struts.

You can use the front spindles rotors and calipers for an easy 5-lug conversion in the front...or you can buy 4-lug mustang 5.0 rotors and still use the mark calipers.

Good luck,
Don

Um actually the whole rear end is a great swap in a Tbird.  I have done it twice myself now.  I used rears from LSC Mk7 on two my Turbo Coupes.  You usually get a 3.27 Limited slip rear ration, and a bit wider track width to help fill out those rear fenders.  I will be doing it a third time to an '85 Bird, but this time with a different ratio for a different engine/trans combo.

But the part about the airbags is correct, dont bother with them.

Actually the issue WAS cost...
Most people are scared of the design and Ford along with most repair shops used to charge an arm and a leg to swap the bags out.  The bags can be had for a relatively inexpensive price today compared to what they once sold for and if you have some mechnical skill they're not much harder to work on than a normal suspension setup.

Another question. Is the axle an 8.8 or a 7.5?

I got a 7.5 from one. Others said there are 8.8's too...

the spindles will only fit if you use the linc ball joint also, it's a larger diameter than the other fox ball joints(but same as an svo mustang). the rotors will work on any 87-88 tc or 87-93 mustang 5.0 spindle.

If the year of your T-bird is 86' and ealier, then you have to use 87' and up LCAs or 94' and up Stang LCAs. When I installed my lincoln spindles and rotors, I changed out the LCAs with tubular units for a 94+ stang. That's a killer score though :)

  I wished I had known about that before I bought those stang LCAs

axle is 8.8 3.27 gears
air ride is NOT junk, but not worth it to add to your bird(its actually easy to fix, and diagnostic if you take the time to do so.)

Don't give up on it.5.0's are cheap and easy to find. All you need is an SO 5.0 (Non-H.O.),and grab a few cheap parts, and there you have it,an H.O.H.O parts are super easy to get and cheap.H.O cams can be had for $25.00,headers are cheap, intakes are really cheap (The H.O Mustang pieces).Build that car.I've been working on mine for a freakin' year. You need patience, and you have to know that you'll run against a brick wall every once in a while.Coming to a dead end is easy,it's how you deal with it that makes all the difference. In the end,you have to do what is right for you.

By the way,my car looks a LOT worse than yours on the outside, and it looked a LOT worse on the inside when I bought it.Time and patience, and my own little motto,"One piece at a time".It's just a big old metal and plastic puzzle.

I agree with Vinnie. Don't give up on it. I've been working on mine now for about 4 years now. Alot has happened in that time and I haven't given up on it. I just walked away from it for a while then went back to it when time and $$ were available. Good luck and keep plugging away at it. It'll get finished.

 straight.
Mine looks so screwey on the outside, I'm kind of embarrased to show it on here with all these beautiful thundercats...
Yet i have huge plans for it, And i keep on! lol.
And in the time i've been giving for things to work out, I've acquired so many awesome parts and knowledge~This car will be amazing in the end. :hick:

I agree with vin as well. I bought my car not running and was told there was only two things it needed, well 2 things turned into over 1.5k worth of parts, so things happen. Remeber you could also get a 5.0 from a stang, another bird, a explorer(need to swap oil pan and all that stuff) I mean they are everywere!!

If you're on a tight budget, just install a basic 5.0,and do the H.O upgrade or any other mods down the road. That stuff is always readily available, and gets cheaper all the time.

My car looks the worst out of everybody's. The main bearing is going on the motor as well. You just need a little fixin up thats all. get a 302 that runs good for now, and the rest will come another time.

Remember, we're not punching a clock here. It takes as long as it takes sometimes. And nobody's trying to be first at rebuilding their car. Sometimes I look at mine and wonder, what the hell was I thinking. and then I do a little more, and it feels good to step back and see what i've done.
