Title: My hood scoop baffles....
Post by: vinnietbird on April 17, 2008, 04:36:06 PM
I thought I'd post these to show people here what I use to keep water, leaves, small animals, and children from being forced thorough the scoops at speed,or whatever falls through while the car is sitting.

Shouldn't those scoops be routed to an IC or air filter?  :slap:

Not when you have a V-8.There's no room. The scoops are VERY close to the distributor.

In that case, may I suggest EDIS and ram-air as your next two upgrades?

My next two upgrades are a/c,and my 5 speed. After that, replace the 1/4 windows, new paint, new tires,,then, after all that,no ram air.I have the MAC CAI,which is good enough for now.A 5.8 may be in the Bird's future.

oh man, if you don't have A/C....  It's a little cooler up there but not enough.  I'm guessing you have something else for a daily driver?

I drive the Bird everywhere. If my wife is going,we take her car.She drives an Accord with the 260hp V-6.Mine is a rolling work in progress. As far as weather,we probably both have it really bad in the summer.Over a hundred and 100% humidity. That's why the a/c stuff is goin in.

Speaking of the hood scoops.... does anybody think it would be cool to mount some LED lights in each opening with a switch inside to turn on or off?  Just a wierd mod I thought of while thinking of ways to block off my scoop openings.

So Vinnie...You're saying that if I use a billet distributor or a Jacobs unit with the HEI type coil on my V-8, I'm going to have clearance problems installing my turbo hood?

I don't think a TC hood would be too great for ram air anyway...scoops don't stick up far enough and they are far from airtight (I suppose some silicone could take care of that). Hooking up the ducting to those small openings would be a pain though.

No,I'm saying, that with a V-8,these scoops are not worth trying to make a ram air out of them. There's just no room.Get a March ram air kit that goes under the front bumper and into the fender if you want ram air.The V-8 sits to close to the hood scoops. If you have these scoops, put the distributor boot on the distributor,or,like I found out a long time ago, water WILL get into the distributor (unless you block the scoops, which I fixed with my baffles).

I'm not a fan of lights in the scoops,it really does look like the tuner wanna-be's.My son wants lights, but he's only twelve, and it's my Sport,so it really doesn't matter what he wants.LOL.
