Well, went and bought another Bird, this one is a 83 Heritage. I have replaced headliners in my older ones(65's) which of course are different than this. Is the foam pad and cloth available or what are my options? Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions.:birdsmily:
IMO the best way to go on a headliner is just have it professionally done. My headliner was falling down, so I took the 'Bird to auto upholstery shop and had a new one installed for $175... Turned out factory perfect.
Unless you have the tools and experience in doing this I wouldn't recommend it.
Plenty of insight and information about headliner replacement in the Body & Appearance section...please do a search there.
I had mine done for $45.00.I pulled the board and had it done, then I re-installed it.That's why they charged me $45.00.
i dont have much luck with headliners. I did mine up real nice back in 90, added new foam and cloth. Went in to eat dinner before taking off for school and lookie what happened...........
That's the first good reason I've seen for not having trees around the house. Yikes.
I cant even come up with a comment for that...
its salvagable... as a convertable :)) but yeah that sucks
I just did mine. Very simple to do, and cheap (like Vinnie said) if you take it out yourself and bring the whole thing to a headliner place. Just make sure your seats are fully reclined, or even out of the car before you remove and install the headliner.
Scott's not allowed to fo headliners anymore.....That sucks!
More info here for headliner removal.....http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=18394&highlight=headliner
I've done it a couple of times. It's easy.
You can get the fabric from a fabric place, or I have gotten them online. Just be sure to use the 3M adhesive.
I agree. Had mine done for $150. I have the sun roof. Came out GREAT.
My first post here, but it really is easy to do. You can pick up the material from just about any fabric store. It cost me about $25 in materials to do it myself, and probably an hour and half of labor. But if you can get it done for $45 or so I say go for it.
That was a strong windshield(notice most is still in place)...
I've done them before, Just need foam, fabric, and adhvesive.
Here is our headliner after being replaced last year. sorry about the glare !!
a few more...
last one...
Doesn't look to hard, Seems like the hardest/messiest part would be the removal of the old foam junk.
I was going to have to give it a try myself, But i came across this beauty in the local boneyard:

It came out of an '83 of all things... Has to have been redone or something.

Bummer is, it doesn't match my interior color scheme, d'oh.
Anyone ever tried a vinyl style headliner? And, How did that hold up?
