Also the embelms are all coming off the car.
And the colors will be 2003 Cobra Blue on top and 2003 cobra sliver on the bottom with blue powder preal mixed into it.
Side trim is coming off then the holes will be welded up.
Chrome door handles will be used off my old T-Bird and Chrome cougar mirrors if i can find a set.
Engine bay color still not sure on.
Also hood pins and take one TC hood scoop off my old car and mold it in on the side to work with the UPR cold air kit.
Last in between the windows will be vinyl wrapped black to clean up the look along with the window tint.

Sounds like you have a real plan there.watch the side trim, though. If you remove the side trim between the wheels, you're fine.if you remove the trim behind the rear wheels, and in front of the front wheels,it leaves the car incomplete because the bumper cover trim (which is molded in the cover) sticks out past the fenders ,which, leaves you with an incomplete,"something's missing" look.By the way, where does someone get 65 $2 bills?

Vinne i know but the truth is i don't want to waste money on side trim or time looking for it I only want to buy enough UPR parts for the shop i got to become a UPR dealer put on that Vortech S-Trim 1 or 2 parts to fix the engine get a shift kit and transmission rebulit buy some paint and some new wheels and window tint last put back my sound system.
Picture of all car without the trim on the sides takes a lot of welding or lots of $$$.

The side trim for the front and rear isn't too hard to find. It'll fill in the "gaps" by not leaving the bumper cover overhang (so to speak). If you're gonna do the job,do it right.

$2 bills are a good way to save money and so are 50 cent coins i should try and save more money but the plan has worked out well so far. but dealers have Real guns all i got are these Airsoft guns which i did waste some autozone pinstripe on got them last week. have not talked to the mechanic but maybe we did some more work this weekend and i gotta cash my check and pay off the rest of the parts for the car.
Also one more week will be 3 years at my job at so i think i need to get a new one or maybe 2 missed 1 day in 3 years and my Boss only likes me because i help make him $$$,$$$+ a year and minnum wage goes up the 24th so now might not be a bad time to move.

Vinnie i am not buliding the car so i have no idea other than i should really be paying a ton more money to have this size of project worked on labor is around about $2,000. he also took the steering rack and fuel lines and power steering pump off the old car and the fuel pup and computer and redid all the motor gaskets and is doing all the body work and paint so i can't complain and i am sure he will figure it all out and all i gotta do is work 6 or 7 days a week again and get this thing paided off so i can upgrade the brakes and redo the front seats and Upgrade a very few things this car will not have when i get it back. Thanks for looking and i am sorry i can't answer all your ?s right now but all i do is buy the parts and get to design the car but it should turn out very nice.

I put this on my car in 30 minutes and works very well. The dirver's side tank looks not quite straight but not very noticable in the car. Very easy install and looks good. Dropped my coolant temp 30 degrees or so.

I got a intake 1" spacer does not fit under the hood so its for Sale make a offer if anyone needs it the tires and wide enough and Nitto Street Slicks cost way 2 much for a set anyway the tires stay till i make them go away by burning rubber.
Sliver and Blue paint job soon with a few blackouts and custom embelms on the whole outside.

Get a free hosting service (like Photobucket (http://"http://www.photobucket.com"), there are a few people around here that use it), upload all your pictures there, and when you are typing your post, there is a button you can click that allows you to enter the web address of an image, which is then shown in your post.
1. Upload your images to photobucket. 2. Type your post, and use the "Insert Image" button: (http://www.cougarxls.com/pf/thebutton.jpg)
3. Enter URL (web address)
For example, I entered http://www.cougarxls.com/pf/enterurl.jpg. 4. Image will appear in your post if you've typed the address properly. Some sites are case sensitive.
You can add as many pictures as you like in a post at once (just don't forget those dialup people :hick: *Edit: LOL, and those of us who never really cared for your paint schemes :poke: ).

Correct! Running both basically adds an extra vacuum leak that the EEC-IV cannot account for.
Quote
an open breather + PCV = unmetered air.......although the PCV valve itself is a controlled vacuum leak, the sample of air it feeds from (crankcase side), has to be taken from the air that has already been metered by the MAF....reason for the breather hose at the TB.
The system will work, but a lean condition during idle/part throttle could be possible, if the EEC can't "compensate" within its tpuppies limitation.......
I actually have a question concerning the PCV...... Doesn't the Holley intake have a provision in the back for one? Curious as to why you're running your off the valve cover.

Usually a calibration us done with the PCV in place, so it compensates throughout the cal for the PCV leak, on mass air. Now different PCV's flow differently, so each cal is matched to a PCV. And when a PCV is open it is sucking in oil fumes too, which is a combustible mixture, so it's not really an air leak.
I would worry about actually pressurizing the case and blowing out seals if you remove the PCV. It's no harm in leaving it in IMHO.

Well i figure i'll chime in on the pcv and brake issue. Keep the pcv(get rid of the breather) and use a turbocoupe one from ford only(aftermarkets tend to leak from what i hear) it will seal under boost, not pressurizing the crankcase. Disconnect the hose that goes from the tb to the drs side valve cover, cap the tb side then run a hose from the vc too an airline water trap. Run the hose from there to the front side of your conical air filter. Drill and tap a fitting into the front flat section of the air filter and connect the hose. Bingo, sealed pcv system which won't pressurize the crankcase and will function correctly. I've been running this system for several years through 14psi on my 5.0 and have yet to even clean the air filter(soon to be time though), the airline water trap getsvirtually no oil(although the filter does go brown in color) and works excellent. To make the system cost me about 50bucks inc the pcv and filter. Now as for the best cost effective braking system. 94-95 Sn95 front spindles with cobra 13" front brakes and either sn95 rear disc or a tc rear end. I use che rear control arms and they are cats ass, excellent build quality and hardware, improved the handling loads. Best 250.00 bucks i ever spent on the tc.

The harm is in running both....one or the other is the way to go. As stated, it can cause lean conditions at idle/part throttle. In most N/A applications; it's usually best to leave the PCV in place. In forced induction applications this is not always the best choice. An option could be 2 open breathers OR you could even go so far as to use an evac kit such as this: http://www.jegs.com/i/Moroso/710/25900/10002/-1# Emission compatibility becomes an issue at that point, however. I'm not sure I would run a pan-evac on a car with catalytic converters in place. That's a situation in which blow-by becomes a fire hazard.
You can even use a smog pump or air pump in more radical setups. The trick is finding a good pump that will live at high RPM's or play with pulley sizes to keep it from spinning too fast.
Here's an excellent write-up on the different types of systems:
And some more learning here as well: http://people.msoe.edu/~lannanm/techarticles.html
Quote
For you race fans out there, there are a few different breeds of PCV systems available. There’s the “Pan-Evac” system, and there’s the “Vacuum Pump” system. Both accomplish the same thing as the PCV system, with some substantial gains.
The “Pan-Evac” system is short for pan evacuation. The pan implying the oil pan, which sort of implies the crankcase. Don’t ask me; I didn’t name it. The Pan-Evac system uses tubes welded into the exhaust header collectors at a typical 15º angle. As the exhaust passes around the tube it creates a high amount of vacuum, pulling the crankcase gasses out, and blowing them out the exhaust. The EPA would obviously be all over this if it were a road vehicle. But it’s assumed that if you’re doing this it’s a race only vehicle. This is NOT at all recommended if you’re running lers of any kind. Again not something you’d necessary do if it were a race only vehicle. The oily gasses will put a residue on everything in the exhaust stream. A ler full of oil residue is a fire waiting to happen. Not good.
The “Vacuum Pump” style system uses a belt driven pump to increase the intake manifolds vacuum. The PCV system can be merged into the pump to create a high level of vacuum on the system.
Both of these systems actually make horsepower. That’s right. Crankcase pressure eats up horsepower. How you may ask? Simple. Imagine your engine is a syringe. Imaging pulling the syringe up and down; sucking in air and blowing it out. Now apply some pressure under the plunger by plugging the needle. Takes a lot more power to press it down huh? Well that’s what happens in an engine. The pressure built up in the crankcase (directly under all of the moving pistons) will apply force on the pistons, making it harder for them to move.
It also builds power in another aspect. If there is a high amount vacuum placed on the crankcase, the piston rings will be sucked up tighter to the cylinder walls. This will then create a better seal, and reduce blow by. The less gas that escapes around the piston rings, the more power the piston will make.
Also from SBFTech.com
Quote
1. Open Breathers = no vacuum used, crankcase fumes, gases and pressure thrown out by pressure.
2. Open PCV System = PCV valve setup to crankcase (lower intake, valve cover) and an open breather to atmosphere. PCV valve = a controlled vacuum leak....Engine state dependent.
3. Closed PCV system = PCV valve setup to crankcase + breather hose to intake air stream. EFI MAF systems need to have the hose after the MAF sensor(=metered air). Engine state dependent. This is = to an open PCV system....the only difference is the source of air for the vacuum leak created by the PCV on the breather hose side.
4. Pan Evac = Vacuum induced to crankcase via exhaust flow. Crankcase sealed.
5. Crankcase Vacuum Pump = Vacuum induced to crankcase via off-line vacuum pump.
Shouldn't mix setups.

Its the 2 tone paint job that fits our cars maybe not the colors for that to each their own but with the side trim removed and the colors and wheels the XR7 looks better with its clean lines than i could of ever thought.
Note: i know in my mind 90%+ how the car will look but in whatever part of the project there at when i go take pics it will at least give you some idea of how it will look in the end "since its still being wetsanded".
pics tomorrow maybe middle of the day or sooner
Also swapping out the TC wheel out of the wrecked car on my T-bird and getting 2 Chrome Cobra Rs tomorrow for it so a few T-Bird pics tomorrow as well time to make both cars a little nicer on my day off.
P.S. Birdman maybe so but this time its got a few Thousand dollars worth of extras and more power more boost more looks and should handle and shift better.

The paint job was done by my mechanic's which this is his 1st Full car he has painted the other guy that works with him did more of the body work and mixing up paint. The shop has never done a project this big and there great and getting stuff to work and making things look as good as they can even on things they don't do for their everyday custmers. The paint was all my design except the black mirrors and grill and hood scoops where his idea and we ran out of blue paint right after they sprayed the bottom.
The XR7 is not flawless but with the wheels and if Vinne makes me some clear corners and with some nice new rotors and window tint it will look good. You guys got some nice cars but i think this one will be nice to take to car shows and the Dnyo and the drag strip and drive around.

Becuase i paided less than it would cost at MACCO to do the whole car with 2 coats or clear and paint and trim black everything and the door and trunk jams. i got the paint 50% off and for a 1st paint job it turned out good the body work on the car was past the point of fixing it all 100% and it was just a $500 SHELL to put my motor and everything else back in.
So they don't paint cars and they don't do body work Except my car and the main money was spent on the heads and roller rockers and MSD box and rebulit trans and new 2500stall and QA1 k-member and UPR coil over kit GT500 rims with NT555 and NT555R in the back i got a new raditor and water pump and engine gasket set and blower gaskets C&C plates ETC so i spent the money where it needed to be spent not on making it Flawless.
Masscougarxr7 The TC hood came with my 88 T-bird when i got it so since it needed to be painted it went on the XR7 since i could not get a spoiler that would look right for it i thought the hood might stand out insted.

Just a thought but I dont see why you would pa for all this work and then at the end start to cut corners. $50o shell... ok? You dumped alot of time and money into i so why would you give up now? Fender wouldnt be that hard to find and what happened with doors from your wreck? It just doesnt make sense to do a half ass job now. I think the Black handles would have flowed better with the mirrors and scoops. IMO.
Its your car so whatever you want to do or not do atleast its still going to be fast.... as long as you didnt half ass anything there...

My mechanic does engine work and not body work or paint so there is nothing really half done there.
I wanted a T-Bird in the 1st place so really all the XR7 was to me was a $500 Shell. The reason i don't do much of the work myself is on big ticket items i get a few breaks and if i work all the overtime i can it won't take long to pay off labor and all the parts are paided for so really i just makesure the shop always got something to work on and be proud of and bring them more bussiness.
My old 87 T-bird cost more in Labor than this whole project and the price i paided for my new 88 T-Bird is cheaper than the labor to build it.
Life is short and its better to have everylast part and labor hour on paper and covered then do it myself for right now.

um heres a wake up call for you... letting a mechanic paint it instead of a body man... IS HALF ASSED!
you have nice shiny paint, at least in the pics.... but you stil have all the dings and dents in the body..... that is like just paintting over rust bubbles... sure it will look good from 20 ft away... (or in pics....) but in person it is a different story, which is what Im betting this car looks like...
people will judge a car by its paint job, as they walk around it, not by the amount of money you spent on labour
not trying to tear you apart as you finally have a car that doent look too bad in pics, but still man... I painted my Bird in my back yard, and I am not a body man, but I still fixed all the dings and dents first, and added that scoop in the fender... you dont have to be liscanced to pull off a PROPER job...

While I do like the color scheme on the vehicle, and in the pics the paint was laid down nicely, I would not call the painter talented. The dents - especially two biguns like those - should have been removed...
Part of being talented is knowing your shortcomings and working around them. As someone who should take pride in his work and seems to want to brannch out, the painter should have gotten someone capable of removing the dents if he did not know how.
Hindsight shows it as penny-wise and dollar foolish by both Carpimp AND the painter...

I wasnt refering to his "painter" but the blanket statement that was made
"""letting a mechanic paint it instead of a body man... IS HALF ASSED!"""
Was just stating the fact just because one person may do work in one field doesnt discredit them or there ability from doing work in another.

bro car looks hot with the two tone. really like the colors work together. but im sorry I have to agree "so i spent the money where it needed to be spent not on making it Flawless." you should have just waited for some extra scrathch. I know the feeling of just wanting it done.
my truck has been in prime all summer. and Ive been doing the body work on the bed, and drivers side. almost done. but the truck needs to be straight for the color im going with. dont want to have the truck get people sea sick looking at it.
you should have taken a stab at some bondo. not that hard if your good with your hands. you can spend 2,000 dollars on a paint job and do py prep and looks like . or you can spend 500 to 700 on suplies and take your time and have it look like a 5,000 paint and the pride of saying yeah i straightened the car and a buddy sprayed it. I myself cant spray. so I let my bro do it for me.
good luck with the car.

Ok I guess you are right... As I do ALL body/paint/upholstery/mechanical work and fabrication on my cars..... Just like you....:D
but.... IF you were paying money for a job, would you take your car to a Mechanical Garage to have the paint done, or a body shop? dont have to answer that as I already know what the real answer should be.... in those insances, you get what you paid for, and it looks it.... as cougarcoupe said.

Okay say i spent around $3,200 for all the work done and this is the picture of the car when i 1st got it.
2 do everything done there no way in hell except for the fact of me being their #1 Custmer that they would take on a project like this.
and Tomorrow i will get some pictures with the wheels on it and when i get paided get a new front window and plates on it get the embelms on it and windows tinted.
Even right now i still got to spot #40 out of 2,210 of all cougars on car domain.
Now i kinda want to redo a older car i want something more Rare and this is what i hope i one day could fix up old school Galaxie XL.
Sorry this project has to be done ASAP so i can fix up the T-Bird and Get me a 3rd car for next winter and have all 2 out of 3 mostly done.

The basic point i making is i can't wait all my life to have the car i want and its almost done and the after the cougar the T-Bird will get done this next year or so and I am getting a Crown Vic for a daily driver and putting the other 2 cars on Good insurance and going to fix up the crown vic a little bit and having something to drive that replaceable then i gotta get me a old school car and fix it up.
Theres a mustang fox body welds custom hood and paint job and new motor and tons of mods for like $3,500 here in town also i could of got a 1984 #80 something out of like 250 GT350 drop top with a few extras on it for $3,000 there was super sick mark 8 for sale on SBFtech for $5,500 i want my cars done so i can have some money saved so when i find a nice car i can just go pay cash for it and walk away with something thats allready fixed up or just a clean car.

Is 110% right so i don't care what you see or what to complain about you guys all have cougars and T-birds do it Better for cheaper or pay more i could careless. I gotta better to do than sit here fighting with any of you guys the simple fact is i got a Good plan and i will finsih it and live my dreams and if you can't respect that and know the Cougar XR7 is not my life it just has a lot of time and money in it. Everyday i drive the new 88 T-Bird i find myself wanting to fix it up and make it mine.
So stop wasting my time so i can maybe sell or trade some junk or car parts and get money to buy nice cars like 1 Wild Birds super clean TC.
Now on anything Negative posted here is a waste of my time and i will just look over it and more PICs Tomorrow so sit back for the show and less typing and more pics and thats how it should be.

whoa, there buddy... thanks for the commpliments, but the TC is far from "super Clean"... as I said about your picture taking of the cougars paint job... pics hide alot.... the TC is FAR from super clean... hell, even the cougar is a piece of junk now.... I have ALOT of work to do to both this winter....
needs alot of work actually.... piddley ass stuff, but still... it has to be done before I can be happy with me even slightly bragging about it... trust me man... I could make this thing look like a junker in pics if I wanted to.... and I think that is why I am having a hard time selling it, because I will make the car sound pier then it actually is, and take pics of the rough areas, so the potential buyer knows what to expect...
and dont go by domain, to judge how nice your car is.... as was stated... pics hide ALOT, judge it by peoples response in person...

Ture but One of a Kind cars are a love it or hate it thing. Also even the owners of these car at times love their cars as much as they hate them and either force shows in the car and even more when fixing it up. With that said theres only 2 things that matter the 1st skill of hanging on 2 a car "not selling or trading it" and 2nd the drive to always make something better or if something bad happens to fix it.
I need to ask help okay does anywhere make blackout covers for the cougar back tail lights.
Also got to ask Vinnetbird what it might cost for a set of clear corner tail lights?

Just get some of the VHT stuff. I think that is what it is called.
Its that black out paint that Sleeper used on his headlights and someone else used on their tails.

I kinda of like the red tail lights just used to the smoke look with owning 2 T-birds the middle black line is missing the driver side tail light so i will just vinyl it for now since at the shop the cleaned all the lens front and back on the car.
So all i need is Vinne to find some corner lights and make me some clear corners soon and change out the battery to a Optima Red top since the green does not match anything.
Heres the plan for the inside NAPA red on the dash and center console swap the panels out of the T-bird.
Black headliner and carpet behind the back seat.
A nicer NON-Porno Red seats with sliver inserts and the front seat sliver headrest with Big red letters saying XR7 on top.
Pictures Later Today i know you will like it with the gt500s back on.

Get a pic or two from the angle of front driver's side corner, but turn the front wheels so the face of the wheel faces the camera not the tire tread! I wanna see it like that :D it'll look even better.
That's gonna turn some heads for sure...

First thing I said when I saw the first pic was SON! It looks amazing out in the light. I dont mean to be harsh after a compliment but now you can see all the body flaws. It looks like the car has been a DD for about 4 years. The paint inside the front of the door is chipping. But like you said it was rushed.
Still looks amazing. The rims really make it all come together. I really Like it. Never thought it was going to look that good with the black. What happened to the bumper?

Spot #2 on Cardomain Sorry i always wanted to be ranked up there even if its short lived but i got lots more work to do.
Got all the gauges and panels and colors for the inside picked out and the green battery is getting replaced with a optima red top.
The car as far as looks is only half way done I build cars for me since i drive them and don't plan on selling them. love it or hate it i want this car done because T-Bird project is also fully designed and ready to go if the Cat is at least paided off and mostly done.

- tint the windows - change to grey, blue, or black interior color(s) - tell that guy with baseball cap in post #194 the visor should be centered over the face - lower the car front and rear - lookin' good so far - when taking 3/4 pics from the front, turn the front wheels so the car is 'turning away' from the photographer

So why did you rush to get it painted??
Leaving bodywork like that just kind of makes it looked half-assed.
The color scheme isn't too bad, but I think you should have waited a bit and had the blemishes fixed first.

Maybe I should sign the guest book and add the link to this thread... ;) then we will see a better (more realistic) ranking
as I said carpimp... your car looks good from 20 feet, not up close though...( just like my blue bird...) no such thing as a nice "show car" from 20feet... unless you go to honda meets all the time... I wish I could take a close look at this car in person...
to be honest, the more I look at the car, the more I like that paint scheme.... 2 thumbs up for that...

#1 i have seen my T-Bird who knows how long the front end is gonna last anyway
#2 new front window will be added soon after its out of the shop
#3 i got enough $2 bills to cover to TINT waiting on check form work to put car on insurance to drive it over to get the windows tinted.
#4 today i am getting Disc Brakes for the back off a 96 Mustang sure is better than drums
#5 the paint was cheap and i got it painted by someone that it was there 1st full car to paint
#6 the car is lowered in the front has UPR coilover kit the back is the part that needs to be lowered. which is why i will get some CHE stuff and lower the back later.
#7 Clear Corner lights and optima red top battery coming soon so no more Green or Orange. Also the inside colors will be changed and will look nicer at a later date.
#8 Other than one Orange and Black and Sliver Cougar with a Turbo for a custom look and a nice red Kenne Bell SC red cougar and my XR7 do i really see more than 3 nice V8 Poweradder Cougars
#9 I don't have a real great job since "fast food" is sometimes looked down on and i don't do the work myself 9 times out of 10
#10 Still getting used to having 2 cars and trying to keep both going and still fix them both up at the same time.

because you have a supercharger you car is "nicer" then say Erics? because he doesnt have a blower? big deal, I could go out tomorrow and throw a Vortech V1 SC on mine... Have a chance to but not the route I am going, since CJ I have noticed it is becoming WAY too common...

Meh.
BTW, I saw another 88 Cougar XR-7 with the same paint scheme today! It was on turbines, and real dirty....
The wheels really make a difference. I like it, but I have to agree that it needs the interior swap.
A job is a Job, as long as you can pay the bills. So I say whatever.
Clear corners will look great I think.
I think he meant that he doesn't see many nice cougars with a Power Adder around. While becoming more common, there still aren't (that) many of them. Honestly, i don't either. Around here, I'm lickey to see one with Quarters that are still intact. My bird is pretty rough, but is one of the nicest examples I've seen around. After the last "Twisties" cruise, it definitely got more respect.

Oh and V8 demon erics is a older model so when i said that thing i was only thinking about 1987-1988 Cougars sorry and if you got a 2.3 liter Turbo car those are nice but i was just thinking V8 poweradder 87-88 cougars. Erics cougar is still in my top 5 for 80s models.
Waiting on my check to put insurance on the car and to Dnyo it will be $99. I think it should have like 400RWHP+ so i just put 501 the car has only been on 2 or 3 drives with the blower on it just to put gas in the car so i am not gonna dyno it untill i get some miles on it and get everything tuned out a little bit better.
theres a 4.6 mustang GT with a prochager at the shop that has 500RWHP some 15 year old kid took it for a test drive and melted the heas and screwed up the car as soon as its off the lift i get my 96 mustang brakes on Subfame connectors and driveshaft safety loop and chrome diff cover. Then i might be able to take it out to drag strip and race it.

Ouch. Concerning possible interior choices, and you keeping the color scheme, you may want to consider turbo coupe seats and run the color scheme inside as well. Done right it would make a nice touch. I just breezed through all the post, and tried to ignore the numerous negative people on here. Nice transformation and the color scheme looks great. Now drive it and enjoy it, since you paid for it. You may want to show off whatever dyno numbers if you have as well, and give us a video with a burnout........please. :burnout:
