I've been researching the wiring for the full digital conversion, from the base digital cluster.
Before I jump into doing it, I was wondering if anyone has done it with complete success.
2. are the sensors still available aftermarket?
3. would it be more worth upgrading to full buttstuffog then digital?
I believe the sensors are still available aftermarket (I think the fuel sender may even still be available from Ford). As for whether it's worth it, that's a matter of taste. Some people like the disco dash (I do), some don't. I think it's a great retro 80's component in a retro 80's car.
To put it another way - if I were American I wouldn't even consider the buttstuffogue cluster because of the 80 MPH speedo and the price/rarity of a 140MPH unit. We Canadians get a 200 km/hr (120MPH) unit, though, so that's what I went with :hick:
I'm going to do some poking around with the wiring and see if all the connectors are at least in my car. I don't know if it was offered in a 3.8 car. and I don't know if they used diff. wiring in specific cars.
I like the full digital look myself, and a speedometer that only goes to 80 or so doesn't really matter much to me.
It's easy enough to mod the digidash to 199MPH anyway :D
The connectors won't be in your car - well, they will (they should be the same as the base cluster connectors) but they won't be pinned the same. You MUST re-pin the connectors for the different dash, or you'll destroy the dash and Lord knows how many sensors the moment you turn the key on.
Thanks, good to know going in.
i posted pics of the cluster pin outs on the thread you mentioned. I figured you read that already. stare and compare ect.
I did the base cluster to full digital cluster conversion on my car. It's not all that difficult, just time consuming. I had to repin the connectors at the dash and even lengthen most of the wires, because they wouldn't reach the other connector. It was a PITA...but it works now and looks awesome at night. I had the fuel tank and engine out of the car, so replacing the senders was no big deal.
Did you use sensors from another car or buy them new?
I bought the coolant temp and oil pressure sender new from Napa. The fuel sender I purchased on this forum.
