As you may have noticed, I've kept a low profile here lately, rather on purpose. It seems like there are enough knowledgeable people on the board now to help newcomers with their myriad problems. My role here has diminished as a result. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you.
The fact is that I'm getting eager for a new challenge. I don't hate our cars or anything, but I'm about as challenged as I'm going to get. I needed something new.
So...as of today I am no longer "in the business" with Cougars.
It hurts to type that but I am just facing up to reality.
Short and sweet: my father is passing along his 1977 Corvette to me. That is now my new challenge. I'm going to yank the stock anemic 170hp 350 and build up a nice engine (maybe even a GM crate motor), then get the body painted, touch up the interior bits, and maybe a set of nice wheels. A few of you may have seen it at the car show...it's in great shape for its age and is an excellent starting point. Everything is all there, just needs cleaned up and some TLC. Dad's not very mobile anymore and just doesn't have the time to take care of the car like he should. I thought it was his highest honor to pass along the car to me.
Meanwhile...the '84 will be up for sale very shortly. I'm still undetermined about the convertible. We will still have Cat Jam this year but it will probably be the last year for it, at least under my reign.
This might all seem shocking to you but it's been a long time brewing, to be honest. It has been 20 years for me. Now that I'm older and so is dad, I'm realizing what's more important. The brand of car doesn't matter, I just like cars, period, and this car is one that I've always had fun working on and being in.
If it's not raining when I get home, I'll snap some new pics of the 'Vette and post them here.
I will discuss with Carm and Alex about my moderator status here. In the interest of fairness I believe that remaining a moderator on this board without having a Fox car would be rather hypocritical. I'm still going to remain a member because so many of you are friends. You might just not see me that often, that's all.
I'm sure this will get a few people riled up but I'm man enough to pour my soul out into a public message board, so I must deal with the consequences. If it helps, I apologize if you're offended but hope that you understand in some way. This is more of a connection with my dad than anything. That means the world to me.
(donning the flame suit)
:flame:
*looks at calender*
*peer*
Agreed... Eric you're a horrible trickster :flip:
well if it aint an april fools joke.... I WANT DIBS ON THE '84!!!!!... or the vert....
:cougarsmily: :cougarsmily:
LOL, had me for about 10 seconds
Me first! Me first!
But, honestly, I hope it's an April fools joke! Is this something Eric likes to do once a year?
I duno, it sounds pretty convincing...if it is a joke, shame on him! lol, if it aint, i know where that 84 will have a great home;)
If it was indeed a joke......IM TIRED. That's my excuse no making fun of me for being gullible. I'm not....I swear!!!! :hick:
I knew it was a joke, right after I read "Important Message".. he NEVER has anything important to say ;)
HAHHAHA
Next he'll be telling us he's trading his Mountaineer for a Tahoe. :giggle:
Just talked to him yesterday and then I realized what day it was. Nice touch with the avatar, though.
yeah... it can fool us newbies!
:hick:
Yeah, but if he's serious...
it would be the worst Joke EVAH.
You suck Eric! :beatyoass:
I had to take a look at the calender myself! LOL:flame:
I figured something was up from the title... APRIL FOOLS
Had me until I glanced down the page to see what the reactions were.
And I've been waiting for something like this.
I should have known at the point where you called putting a Crate Chevy in a Corvette a challenge. :hick:
that was priceless. I near fell out of the chair laughing...:hick:
I knew it was a joke when he said this is the last year for CJ.... this is a beast that has outgrown even Eric... I think even with or without him, that is one show that will go on no matter what.... Might not be as nice or as big of a deal, but still
I fell for it - my first instinct was to see if he was one of the people that gave me a hard time about my Chebby 350 in the T-Bucket :D
I can see why you'd think I'm not serious and that's probably my fault. The timing of this announcement could have been, shall we say, a little better.
Truth is, my dad isn't doing so well right now, health-wise. He wants to give the car to me and start helping me on it while he can. He feels sort of like a spare tire right now. While he's still mobile we're going to try to get as much done as possible. I hate to think of his deterioration while we're restoring this car, because that's probably all I'll remember later on, but he feels it's his legacy and I can't argue with that.
Anyway...that's all personal stuff that I'll deal with. I'm not looking for support, just letting you all know what's going on.
But............... it's passed twelve. :(
shiznit.... well, keep me in mind if you wanna sell the '84 huh?
Give me the 86. The engine in it would look sweet in my 93. Then I'll grab my father's 60 Vette, and we can go to Corvettes at Carlisle.
Noooo!
I don't think eric's joking about his father, he wouldn't joke about something like that.. the rest is questionable.. but his father thing, that has got to be sincere.
Sorry to hear about the old guy he's a great dude.
Yeah I'm with ya baxo. Same here E-man sorry to hear that. I *think* most people here know I inherited my Cougar from my dad, so I for one will vote go ahead and do whatEVER will make the stong bond between you and he that surely is already there, even stronger. I've definitely learned that "you don't know what you got 'til it's gone". And I spent LOTS of time with him and he tried to be with our family as much as possible and to have us do everything together, but I can't help sometimes feeling like I would do it even MORE if I could go back in time.
If you are both indeed gonna work on that vette then it sounds like it should be a great time! :headbang:
Well hell, if you're serious then Eric, may I suggest LS1 in the Vette ;)
I don't think you are though (serious about giving up Cougar's, I'm sure you probably are helping out on the Vette).
Hey Eric did your dad really love you,Being a cat lover for so long. He's leaving you a vette!!
I didn't even read half of it before I knew it was a joke.:hick:
I appreciate the comments, everyone. Dad said to tell everyone hi and thanks also. We also dug up this photo (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/ximages/77corvette.jpg") for you guys too.
Again, thanks.
hahahahhahaha
were not suckers!
that's creative
he's calling us lollipops. LOL
BAHAHAHAH!!!!
Man, I love your dad!!
You on the other hand.....
No spankings for you!
Which one is everyone here?
(I'm the red one in front :hick:) Eric, you're a punk...
Can I be the red one? :D
Hey, I called it first!
Didn't you see my stealth edit :flame:
Oh . We still need to deal with Eric.
I think youtube has the best april fools so far. that and google lol!
Good man for admitting you cheated, and giving me the 1st pick.:hick:
You could be the red and yellow one, but I think Carpimp wants that colour scheme.;)
Indeed they did but they have corrected everything again.
Oh, no - I edited before I saw your post. Let's call it a tie - we can slice it in half :D
I could almost half see it. Not with the 84 though. I think he would give up the vert before that.
Shush you! You're giving him ideas! :hick:
joke or not better never sell that VERT but a 77 Vette would be nice.
Good one... Congrats...

hahahahahahaha oh man how 5 frame animated gifs crack me up. Such concentration on this guy LOL I love it!
LOL... Yeah no doubt it's a keeper...
Anybody recognize the actor???
It's Orson Welles, guessing Citizen Kane but not positive on the movie.
I wasn't sure about the move either, but I'm guessing you are correct...
We watched Citizen Kane in "History of Films" class in college. Unfortunately the class was directly after lunch (read: beer), so I tended to fall asleep a lot LOL. Have to catch that on TCM.
And yes, I know that Rosebud is the sled. ;)
I had it pegged from the start. ;)
I knew you would make your afternoon post as a "cover-up" trying to get folks to feel bad for doubting you...so I just waited you out
:hick:
Pretty good though...
yeah, me to.
i was waiting for him to follow up around 23:59 hrs est.
What a pitiful cry for attention. "WAAAHHH!!! Nobody needs me! Nobody wants me! I'm not the center of attention anymore!"
Jesus, dude! How old are you? Grow up already. Or at least lay off the tear jerk 'I'm leaving' stories. If ya wanna go just go. If you really meant anything to anybody here they'll say their goodbyes. The rest of us will get on with our lives and in a few years we might look back and say, "Oh, yeah, I remember him. The guy that wouldn't drive his Cougar to the Cougar meet. Good riddence."
EDIT: Oh, this was a joke? Sorry. Guess I should have read the whole thread. My bad.
:D
The only difference here is, he's the one organizing the meet LOL
(http://members.airsoftcanada.com/digital_assasin/Forum%20Stuff/Misc/oh_snap.gif)
Lol
IT!!!!! now you ruined it for me.....:beatyoass:
I never knew anyone had such strong negative feelings about the guy that jumpstarted the whole community. The cat's outta the bag now!
Anyways, I'm glad that was a joke...I'd HATE to see you sell either one of your Cougars.
I'd not own a 20th Anny Cougar if it wasn't for Eric.
I think he started this thread just so I'd have to make an effort to go to CatJam - just to kick his ass :hick:
(JK)
I'm in history of film right now. We watched
Citizen Kane a couple weeks ago. I slept through the first 15 minutes so I missed all the childhood scenes of him on the sled.
do you remember the part in forest gump when he stoped running and said "im preaty tired now i think ill go home."...and all his followers said"what thats it ...now what" thats how i fealt when i read the fist post:beatyoass:
sorry to here about you'r pop's bro....but you know what you need to do ...you guy's get that vett done and maybie you can drop a 429cj in it:D
Did you read ANY of the thread? :toilet:
Actually the part about my dad isn't that far off. He's physically not been able to do much for the past few years (back/leg pain, probably sciatic nerve). We're actually hoping his doctors prescribe surgery for him so he'll quit being a grumpy old lady. We'll know in a few weeks.
He does have a burgundy '77 Corvette that just got rebuilt in the back end (U-joints, brakes, exhaust, bearings, etc.). But according to him, he doesn't want me to have it because he knows I'll attempt to drop in a Ford engine. ;) I think eventually he'll cave in and the car will end up in my possession though. I like it...it's a very different car and although parts are frightfully expensive, I have enjoyed helping him work on it. Just needs a power infusion big time; the stock 170hp L-48 350 is just anemic. Sadly, a Cougar/T-Bird with the stock 150hp SO 5.0 feels faster...
...but again, a crate motor can work wonders in Chevy land. ;)
Any crate motors your looking at for it Eric? Sorry to hear about your dad no fun to have a nice car you could not drive much.
A friend of mine used to own a silver '77 'vette with t-tops and a four speed. Great car (I love C3 'vettes) but I never got to see how anemic it was because he drove the thing slower than a grandma all the time. I can't even remember breaking 3000 RPMs with the thing.
Eric,
After that stunt you will never be able to leave because no one will believe you!!! LOL :flame:
X2
As long as you don't abandon us Eric, we are good! LOL
And if you ever do *evil stare* we will find you.
In response to Birdman's comment, I think this ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU sums up the path Eric is choosing very well. :cougarsmily::cougarsmily: :headbang:

That is the freaking funniest gif i have seen in a while, i was going to photo shop a Domo-kun eating a corvette but my photo shop skillz are not l33t enough to do so.I also did not want to spend the time looking for a picture of a domo that would be suitable. Oh right click save on that gif.
Well, I said X2 the first time, I'll say it again with a little more clarity :hick:
___
I do like that song.
NOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOO u RUINED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
QUICK TAKE IT DOWN TAKE IT DOWN:hick:
I have never read a thread that scared the sh** out of me and made sigh in relief at the same time.
I'm going to my corner now to cry.
Lmfao!!!!!
I just about fell off my chair the first time I saw it too. There's a bigger one out there, so if I find it I'll edit my old post.
First of all, I'm rather positive that'shiznitler day's before he applied Just For Men to his 'stache and had his subsequent shaving accident ;) .
Secondly,
Think of it this way, he at least saved you from watching 2 less hours of movie viewing.
Nice!
:ies:
One of the funniest movie's I've seen in a while.
