Title: Spring and rack questions......
Post by: vinnietbird on March 24, 2008, 04:51:51 PM
Will a '99 Mustang steering rack, springs, and struts swap over to my Sport?I just got them all (the rack looks nearly new) for $10.00.

OH !!! One more question,I read on here somewhere that the rear calipers from a Taurus SHO will swap onto the TC disc rear.Is that true?If so,I snagged a set of those as well (included in the $10.00 price tag).

The steering rack will not work unless you go over to Maximum Motorsports, and pick up one of their steering shafts for the SN95 rack into a fox.

I do believe that there is another issue, but I cant remember.

I'll check it out over there at MM.Thanks a lot.If it's too much,I may buy another rack.Mine has a LOT of play in it.I may just need to swap the inner and outer tie rods.I have some new inners,I need some outers.

O.K.,I just checked them out,$219.00 for the conversion parts. No Way !!! I can just buy another rack if need be and still have a lot of money left for that price. No big deal, someone will need it somewhere.I may put it on Ebay.

Now,will the front springs swap over or not?

It helps to know the owners of the yards, and at this yard,I've been going there for over 10 years. He cuts me good deals, and I send him business all the time. The problem,he doesn''t have cars I can actually use much anymore. He used to have a bunch of T-Birds and TC's about 7 years ago,but at that time,I wasn't looking for many parts like I am now.If I had a time machine....................

The beauty of the MM shaft, is not only will it convert the car to the SN95 rack, but you ditch that sloppy ass shaft with the rag joint. Much of your play could be coming from that rag joint. I pulled mine out of the red bird, and the only way I could really describe it is a limp dick.

Springs will swap over, but unless you have the 11" brakes up front, the struts will not. Id recommend AT LEAST the 11" brakes up front regardless of what struts and springs you use.

I'll be gathering the brake upgrade parts as time goes by.I have a 5 speed to get in,paint, and my a/c stuff as soon as P71 gets my stuff to me.I'll check the rag joint.I still think the tie rods are pretty worn. They're easy to change,so,no reason not to.The ones on the Sport are probably the originals.I may swap them Saturday after I install my replacement fender.
