VERY glad to see rwd becoming cool again, enough that even Hyundai is stepping up.

However you'd still never see me in one o' those. It is a Hyundai. ;)  And it looks like azz like all the rest of the import stuff.

Refreshing to see the smoke comin from the RIGHT end though!!!!!

New Turbo Coupe? Naw...

New 200SX? Maybe...

Remember, the TC was marketed as a luxury car sith sporting aspirations. The new Hyundai is gonna be a bargain-basp00get sporty car with little emphasis on luxury. Ford should be worried, though - it looks like a good competitor for the Mustang, since both the Challenger and Camaro are both priced way higher...

I dunno, I see more luxury in that interior then I see in my old TC...

Apparently the 306HP V6 is going to start at $19,999 and be a direct competitor to the Mustang (yet another 6-Speed manual car, when will you catch up Ford?) and the Turbo-4 is to be "significantly lower". Work on the street is anywhere from $15,999-$17,999 base price (and it also gets the 6-speed...).

I hope it at least takes the "dorifto" idiots out of the 240 and RX-7 markets...

I could see myself buying one in a year or two as a daily driver. If I'm going to be commuting 90-100 miles everyday for work, the 22-25MPG auto-Vic won't cut it. A 6th gear (vs 4th in the Vic) in a lighter car with better aero (and indeed a much smaller engine) should HWY mileage around 30-35 and on 87 (or I can shove the boost up and run it on E85 :hick: ).

Your old TC was, by 1987 standards, quite luxurious. Remember, everything from power windows to air conditioning was optional on T-Birds back then - I'm surprised Ford didn't charge extra for valve stem caps on the wheels. The new Hyundai, however, is just like almost every other new car on the market: A million airbags, A/C and power accessories as standard equipment, etc.

In short: The T-Bird was an expensive (premium) car in its day. The Hyundai is a cheap (bottom feeder) one.

Speaking of Hyundai - my father just yesterday bought a brand new V6 Sonata. It was thousands cheaper than anything else in its class with a far better warranty and plenty of "money on the hood" by way of rebates and discounts (car manufacturers have FINALLY been dropping prices in response to our strong dollar). I haven't even laid eyes on it yet. Sounds nice - I think the V6 is rated at somewhere around 250 horses. His only gripe was that you can't get the V6 with a standard tranny in the Sonata.

Does not look as good as the one they were showing at the Detroit auto show, the one at the auto show looked good this one is so so.
The one at the auto show looked beefier to me and the front less slender.

It'll be interesting to see how it sells and performs. The only thing I really don't care for is the goofy curve along the bottom of the back side glass.

People can bash Hyundai all they want, but I just rolled over 79,500 miles on my '05 Tib with nothing but routine maintenance. Not too shabby for a "cheap" car.

Well, maybe I might try one for a commuter car. My sister has had Hyundai for years and never has had any problems.

However, it will never be nor will it replace my TC.

I learned to drive in a datsun, but the real first car i drove was a hyundai.  and believe me, it was just a throw away beater.  but you know what, funny enough.  all the lil 4yl cars that wanted to be sporty (like unno a chevy? baretta or whatever) and cavalier etc could keep up with the hyundai.  it was a great car to have in hs b/c honestly it was a sleeper.  back then when racing in the middle of town was cool har har, i was dead even with a 95 accord coupe 5spd.  which isnt sporty or ANYTHING but as far as other cars kids in hs were driving thats fast lol.  i dunno driving a hyundai is driving a rental. and suprisingly, it will actually keep up.  my dad drove it 120 miles a day to work for 5 years, i drove it to highschool, really learned how to use a clutch in it (So the throw out was screwed), but it was still reliable.  only problem was it couldnt stop, so it was totaled.

by 1999 they bought DSM engine designs (very high reliability) so other than possible crank walk, they were work horses.  its been up hill ever since that.  my dad now drives an 06 sonata.  car and drive so says its on par with a lexus as far as fit finish.

they could drop the ball on RWD, total flop.  but they're becoming good cars.  if i dare say, built better than a "rock" for less money ;)

Sorry i see Pontiac G6 and then a little bit of G35 coupe in it and a price tag that says who even cares this is gonna be a  sleeper car and maybe even the "rental car" Bone stock version will be half way fun to drive.

Not trying to start shiznit flinging but as far as i have seen DSM's are not all that reliable, but that may be because all the DSM's i see around town are driven by ass munch little ricer boys with fart cans.

really on those DSMs the engines arent really the problem.  but seriously you can drive a DSM right into the ground.  say the motor seems shot on inspection, but you HAD to get 200 miles down the road.  you'd be surprised when you can drive the sucker back.  i mean no motor is reliable without good maintenance.
