Looking good! I'll be redoing the underbody this summer, and maybe even a paint job. I doubt I'll clean it up 1/2 as nice as you did.
Good job!
im guessing a mesh. like some stainless mesh...
:iagree:
That's about all i can come up with, Would look nice also.
Be very careful welding on that roof. Its one of the worst places to weld on a car and keep from warping.
I would use epoxy to take care of that hole.
epoxy a backing plate to the roof, and then a round patch to that. use waterproof filler after you sand the epoxy down.
also, do any grinding at a low speed and don't stay there to long.
If you warp the roof enough, you may have to clip it to fix it.
and that would suck after all that work.
That is looking really good ! Keep up the great work. I always love a Bird going through a nice restoration.
Somewhere on here I posted last year with my answer to the scoop problem.I made some easily installed/removable aluminum baffles for mine. They just slide on the back scoop studs and use the factory fasteners to hold them on,and then, just loosen the nuts and slide them off. They are awesome if I say so myself.....which I just did.LOL.I'll take a couple of pics later this evening and post them for you.Prepare to be fascinated !!!!
Your not done with the pics yet?....slacker
Here we go.Remember, these are awesome, and I will NOT be held responsible for the amazement you're about to experience.LOL.

They can actually be slid further forward to fit directly up to the scoop, but I leave a small gap.The side baffles curve towards the front and keep everything off of the engine. It would be very easy to add some black foam seal material to make a better seal, but they've been great as they are.
wow i can't believe how a simple thing like that could be soooo cool of an idea. i kept thinking wire mesh, or two pieces of foam that i would sqeeze into the holes on a unplanned rainy afternoon. i like the idea, may i use your idea and put the rubber type foam tape around to really seal it good. I'll still give you VINNIETBIRD   all the credit. I feel kinda stupid for not thinking simple. leave it to me to overdue a project....lol,lol,...:D
Sure, use the idea. Here's how I did it.FIRST,get a piece of cardboard, about 1/8 inch thick (like the aluminum I used),cut out the pattern flat. Then,on the back side of the cardboard,(I used an Exacto knife and tape),cut the cardboard about halfway through where the bends should be,then tape it where you want it so it'll hold it's shape, test fit,and modify as needed until you have it right. After the cardboard stencil works right, make it into a flat piece again, trace it onto the aluminum, and cut it out.My Dremmel did that with a cutoff wheel in short order.Once that is done,I cut the back side of the new aluminum baffle with the same cutoff wheel (about halfway through the aluminum),and gently bent the aluminum piece how I needed it.You should be able to see the cuts on the back of mine in the pics.Once the car is mostly finished,I'll add some weatherproof foam to make a really good seal, but I need a hole for the water to drain so it doesn't pool up in the scoop.I'm going to add a small hole to each baffle as far back as possible and have drain tubes running from them for a water drain.I've also stamped mine with a fake Ford part number so people will ask where I found them.LOL.
