Title: My 88 TC for sale
Post by: 1fstcpe on March 18, 2008, 12:22:35 AM
I am putting my TC up for sale. I have decided it just is not me. I thought it woud be cool, but not really for me. I have only had it about 3 weeks. It has 188k on the clock, but runs great. It has a few things done to it. Manual boost controller, new exhaust, aftermarket boost guage and air fuel gauge. Interior is clean and out side is nice, but the Texas sun has caused some fading on the decklid and driver side rear. Asking 3500.00 Here are some pics for ya.
you can pm me here or call me cell. The number is 817-825-0158. If i dont answer leave a message. The car is located in Fort Worth, TX cody

it just cracks me up what people try to offer. I could understand if this car had lots of problems. People think that because there are somany listed cheap, that they should all be cheap. The ones listed that low, are so because they are junk. This car is far from it. This is my daily and has NO problems. Thanks Metal Matt. If you come across the cash holler at me and see if i still have it.

Yeah man I agree. If a vehicle is clean then its worth more already than something thats fallin' apart. I sold mine for $2000 because it was strong and in good shape not a "fixer upper." I'll be in touch if anything changes and I can grab it.

If you want higher offers, It helps to take pictures of the car when its CLEAN so people can see what they getting. Dirty cars look like junk.

you try living in tx where one minute it is 90 degrees and the next it is snowing 7 inches, and then right after that it is pouring rain. I know you get snow in ri, but at least you have some idea what the weather is going to do. Those pics were taken right after I got it, and it has rained every day I have had off, or it has snowed. either way, from the pics i posted you can see it is a clean car. Just needed to be vacumed. No matter what, these pics do not make it a 900 dollar car.

Yes it does, no offense, What you want for it would be almost mint low milage. $900 would be a good bartering price, plus cash in hand talks. Maybe take some better pictures if you have the time, more interior, exterior, engine bay and underneth. The drivers side door, is there something wrong with it, or was it just slightly open when you took the photo?

I would give about 1500 and thats HIGH. If it had lower miles, you had more indepth pics of the interior, side views to show that the panels are straight, under the hood pics, pics of the mods, list of options, under side pics, hows the tires, EVERYTHING functions?, I may be young but I know about selling a car. And im sorry but 3 weeks of solid bad weather sounds like an excuse to me, plus it would look better wet so i would have taken some pics of it then. Im not trying to be an ass, but if you want such and such an amount, Put more effort into the sale.
It DOES look like a very clean turbo coupe, but its hard to tell paint condition, if theres any rust, how nice the interior is when its dirty. Looks like the drivers door wasnt fully shut in that pic

what is quoted in red, that is pretty shady. I have bought and sold many cars, none on this site, but that does not really matter. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I dont really car if i sell it or not. As i stated, it is not really my type of car, but, I will keep it before I give it away. Wont be long and there wont be many of these cars in original form left. Most of you people that buy them, gut them and put v8's in them. That will just make mine staying a 4 cyl turbo that much better. This car can sit in my garage next to the mustang for all I care. Just thought I would toss it out there and see.

with good pictures you might get $2500 out of it. I doubt anyone here would buy one for $3500, with no idea of underbody condition or any info except that it has a boost valve.
And, when did it go from 90 degree's to 7 feet of snow in tx? I can't think of a time when thats happened here, and it actually does snow here, and it does get well over 90 degree's here in the summer. If the temp isn't under 40, it would more likely rain then snow.

now everyone knows that when you are selling something, you can allways go down on price but you can never go up. 3500 was a starting point, but 900 is down right stupid. I know what these cars go for, i have done my research. And as I stated, i had a starting point. I could have started at 10k if i wanted, but that is all it would have been, was a starting point. Boost valve? What the hell are you referring too? You mean boost guage? Oh you mean boost controller? All I did was list a couple of the things that it has. Nothing much, but it does not matter. A car that runs and drives, and just passed our TX emissons test, is worth a lot more than 900.
Now as for the weather, you asked when it did what I stated? Try March 7, 2008. Yes this month, this year. It went from being 88 one day to 7 inches of snow in my front yard. Would you like the pics of the snow, cause I sure took them since that shiznit does not happen in fort worth. It happens back in the panhandle where i am from, but not here in ft worth, so yes, I have the pics to prove it. Oh and never did i say 7 ft, so re-read my earlier post.

Boost valve = manual boost controller.
Both sides of the argument have good points. The guys that have been here a long time know what these cars sell for. There was a time when you could actually get a turbo coupe in good shape like that one for under a grand. Nowadays 1500-2000 is a more realistic price though. You have a car with a lot of miles on it. It may look good on the outside and it may run well at the moment but its probably at that point where things will start wearing out on it and such. On the flip side you are right you can start as high as you want and go lower. However a lot of people will see you starting off high and think you are a gold digger. I think 2500 is a more realistic starting point myself. I myself probably wouldnt go over 1500 looking at it there. If you're gonna try to find buyers you really should make the car look as good as you can. Clean it up and take good pictures of it. Get everything in detail. Most people that see it on here and become interested in it are far, far away. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing a car online and traveling a long way only to find out theres a bunch of stuff wrong that wasn't detailed in the ad. I personally look for underbody pics too, though I doubt rust underneath is much of a problem there.

One just like this north of us came all the way down to $1200 before it sold. Blue with blue interior 120k miles.
Just FYI the guy you bought this from had been trying to sell it for 6-8 months before you bought it. I was watching it on craigslist.

Not to be a dick or anything but when you said youve sold many on many cars and have experience selling cars... you'd think that you'd clean it up a little better. Clean cars speak to people.
We know our cars on here. For a Semi-loaded 88TC with 188k and fading on the LR quarter and trunk... be happy to get 2700 max with those kind of pics and the mileage.
Im on the block with everybody trying to get somthing for nothing. but why try and get nothing for somthing? I got my 83 cat off of cougarse for 600$ with a wee bit of rust and a couple things needing fixed. with 89.5k on the clock.
thats just my opinion... clean it up some show more than one interior shot and give us a pic of the motor and underside.

I didnt mean cover the shape of the car by taken pictures of it wet! Seems like I did dindt it, my bad. Not trying to tell you to be shady, but clean the car up before expecting higher offers. Your right these cars are hard to find in good shape, I had a black one that was suppose to be my first car that had serious rust in the shock towers you couldnt see from the outside. People are not gonna want to throw any decent amount of money out for something that looks O-K in pics. If it doesnt look good, and theres basiclly no info given, no indepth pictures, your not gonna get anything near what you want. Before I start a war Im not trying to start I will step out. Good luck with the sale, looks like it is a nice car, just you need to show the buyer its nice. My car looked great in pictures, But after I got into it I saw I got SCREWED, the problems I was told about are nothing compared to what I found. Sorry I just cant imagine buying another car without indepth pics and description of the car.

its obvious to me that few, if any, in here are serious about buyin this car at any price. if someone was serious, they could see potential in the pics given, make an offer, and easily ask for more pics.
its 1fstcpe's car to sell anyway he chooses. he turned down a $900 offer that included little hint of further negotiations, so what? i would do the same if i received an offer that low compared to my askin price. he even offered to knock off $500. if it dont sell for whatever reason, its his car to keep. why all the hub-bub?

hey guys i get what all of you are saying. truth is, if it were to sell, great, but I dont have to get rid of it. It may grow on me. It is just a daily driver i have right now, while i SLOWLY work on my stang. Never had one of these before. Allways been a mustang person personally. I guess I should not be such a prick as I am new here. dont mean to ruffle feathers and what not.
To the guy in san antonio, no i did not pay his asking price. I try never to pay asking price on a car if I dont have too. I turned down a 96 Trans am with a 6spd the same night i bought this cause the guy would not come down 100 bux. Sounds stupid to some I am sure, but I drove a long way to look at a 97 trans am and it was a 96. They have their differences (96 and 97 trans ams) and though subtle, I feel he could have taken 4k instead of 4100. Then had the nerve to tell me I would be back to buy it. I took the TC instead for considerably less. It is clean and should have taken pics i suppose yesterday after washing and waxing it, but will prolly end up keeping it. As with everything I have, it is allways for sale. I tossed it out to see what would happen, and this all started cause I said I would not take 900. So with that all said, sorry to ruffle feathers, especially being the new guy and all.

Hey man, you just got lowballed and you're sorry? Don't worry about it, we should be apologizing to you! Speaking as a northerner, a lack of rust is key to me. I've trailered cars back to Minnesota from San Fran, Austin, Orlando, etc, so the right guy will travel for the right car. I recommend just driving it for a while. My guess is with the TC performance and with the current gas prices, we may see an ad for a Mustang in a few weeks. LOL. Anyway, welcome and good luck with your car(s), whatever you decide!

I apologize if I seemed like a ass about it. Hell I wish I had the money cause it looks solid, and id love to have a rust free car to replace this POS rot box i own. I know all about bartering, and people being stubborn about stupid things. Good luck with it, whether you keep it or sell it.
