Title: Possible "new" product? Testing the waters
Post by: Chuck W on March 03, 2008, 10:28:02 PM
So, like I don't have enough to do these days, I'm contemplating a "new" product for the Fox Tbirds/Cougars.

I say "new" because they aren't a new idea, but a reintroduction of a previous one.

I'm thinking about offering caster plates like the old Kenny Brown ones (which were my design anyway) as seen in the pic here...

http://www.turbochuck.com/images/80%20XR-7/80xrengine.JPG

These will be a fixed caster adjustable camber with poly bushings.  They work great for street cars. They have add as much positive caster as possible without having to do any mods to the strut towers.  The added caster really helps with steering/turning geometry and tire wear.  I have been running these on my Fox cars for the past 6-7 years or so.

I need to do some digging and pricing stuff, but was curious if it is even worth my time.

I'm set on CC plates, but the question that comes to mind is "How much would they be?"

I am interested, but like most price is a factor before I say yes for sure.

That is part of this process.  I have to dig up quotes, price materials, etc.  Obviously they aren't going to be just $50 a set, but they should be a cost effective option.  I'd like to try and keep them $150 or less, but I won't know until I get into it for certain.

I'm in for a set, I like the clean look and that cc looks alot better than the mm one with all the spacers and whatnot.

I'd do those for $150...that's half what Maximum Motorsports wants for theirs.

They are still $200 (http://"http://www.maximummotorsports.com/index.html?http&&&www.maximummotorsports.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_77&products_id=258") ($270 for the bling).

Would these work with SN-95/Fox Stang Struts?

Don't see why not as that is what I have always used on my cars.

Optimal caster + camber adjustment without the harsh spherical bearing? Sounds good to me.

Yeah, for most street cars, the infinitely adjustable caster is just not needed.

I’m interested
I was going to buy the ones for a mustang but I rather give you the money.
So what you saying is these only go so-much caster and on the other ones it’s wasted. And as for the camber they will work the same.

Unless the car is tweaked, being able to dial in the caster to dead nuts isn't necessary for the street.  Most cars won't vary enough for it to even be an issue.  The camber adjustment will be the same.

Well as mentioned, the caster is fixed, these just add in more postive caster.
The camber adjustment is as with the stock strut mounts (a little more adjustment actually).
With the added pos caster, you can actually run less static neg camber as the camber curve on turn is improved over stock.  With these I never run more than -0.75* camber, but usually closer to -0.50* on the street.
