Title: 8.8 rear w/3.73's, packed traction lok, newer brakes...
Post by: Sick88Tbird on March 03, 2008, 08:51:15 AM
Location: Camden Co, NJ

I didn't want to do it...but realistically 3.73's will be way too much gear behind a S.O./5-speed combo, so I'm looking at selling this rear.  In June 2006, I had the gears installed by a reputable shop in Pottstown, PA...at that time they also checked out all the bearings(which were okay), a new pinion seal was installed and I had them pack extra clutches in the traction lok unit.  I have over $600 into that alone...about 2 months prior to that, I installed new brake shoes and hardware and had the drums cut(1st cut on relatively new drums)....

The rear was in my other T-bird that I destroyed...the gears and everything have less than 10k miles on them...The car was off the road since March 2007...so I didn't have much time on it.

I'm looking to get $350 cash...firm.  I will consider full or partial trades if you have anything I can make use of.

Thanks,
Don

Uh I ran 3.73 gears and a Traction-Lok behind my old SO with the AOD and it ran fine. It actually woke the car up quite a bit.

Yes, but I'll be doing a T-5 swap shortly...I would need to grab 5th gear in the quarter mile...fwiw, an AOD has a 2.40 1st gear ratio...the standard wide-ratio T-5 has a 3.35 1st gear ratio.  I appreciate your input though...I agree that it would be fine behind an AOD...just not my cup of tea for a T-5.

Thanks,
Don

Really just helping him with a free bump. I did however get a good deal from a guy in NY once by mentioning it. He didn't make any money on the deal, but what I paid him got him and his girl a couple of days here in sunny FLORIDA...Worth a try.

If i wasn't so short on cash and could afford a few days off and had a car reliable enough to make the trip, I would consider it...lol...

...I just don't think the planets are aligning for me anytime soon though.  lol
