I've been posting questions about a t-5 swap for a little while now and i have overlooked the e-brake. I have huge feet, my shoe barely fits between the brake pedal and the footwell wall to push the accelerator. So if i can make more room down there by taking out that e-brake pedal that would be choice. Does the TC console have an e-brake handle and how hard would it be to put one in if it doesnt.
nope, all the tbirds and cougars have the foot brake. well im positive on the 86 to 88 foxes.
thats not a bad idea,,
id rob the parts for the job of a mid 80's chevy cavalier and modify to make it work.
the cavi ones look very generic. My freind has two 89's and those would work perfectally
it probably wouldnt be too bad to fab up without using the TC console. a mustang one might even work.
If you wanna use the mustang console you will need the mustang dash, as it won't mesh together correctly. The 89-up birds, cougars have the hand e-brake as well but the console is wider, ( the trans tunnel is higher & wider) so that might be difficult to use. The dash from the mustang will bolt to the firewall, with no problem. So you could use the mustang console but it's kind of a hassel to switch everything out
i was thinking more allong the lines of using no console. he doesnt have the turbo coupe console so that means he had the floating console mounted to the drivers seat. i thought maybe get some turbo coupe seats, do the 5 speed swap and fab up the hand brake. then all you need to do is figure out something trick for the power switches that were in the console. it would be different. i think its something id do if i had the base style interior. you could probably make some sort of console reasonably with a little creativity.
all out customization would be to do the sn95 mustang interior swap into a fox. i have seen it in a handfull of fox mustangs and orange crush i belive it was is doing it into his tbird (or cougar, i forgot what hes got). no doubt its a pretty serious undertaking.
That is the way that I would do it. You would have a nice shifter boot and a nice chrome e-brake handle. Would look great I think. I had thought about doing it like that when doing my swap, but I think I will save it for another day. I didn't want to take on too much at once as I want to get my bird back on the street by spring time. I really want that hand brake at some point also. I too have wide feet and have a hard time with the pedals between the gas and brake.
I have custom fiberglass experience so i could easily modify an sn95 console but matching colors and textures is another story. I would freak out with out my armrest so i gotta have something. i've never seen a TC interior so i have no idea if i could modify that one but that is probibly the route i would go. No one said it has to be easy to get to just out of the footwells maybe on the passenger side of the console outside of it.
here is some quick console pics. i dont have any better ones at the moment.

Thanks Shame i found an sn95 one on e-bay for like $45 and today i started toying around with the idea of smoothing out my dash and some other interior pieces and painting them up proper so matching would not be an issue but thats a helluva lot of work what am i going to do with the car in the meantime.
Did someone say summer project.
shame302, those are the same seats and console I picked up at the salvage yard to do my t-5 swap with.
awesome....honestly, i hated the seats at first. i was going to get some flo-fit seats for the sport but it didnt take long for these to grow on me. i lucked out when i got a parts car turbo coupe. it had the same seats my sport does and i liked them so much i put them in my ranger. those are mint and most likely will find their way into the tbird. ive just been too lazy to swap them.
I cant use the stock seats im too big i know for a fact that that suckers gonna bend one of these days
