Title: High Flow Clutch Fan Swap?
Post by: Romeo2k on March 02, 2008, 07:04:54 PM
Well im gonna be changing my Fan Clutch here soon, As a quick temporary until i can get my E-Fan Setup together.

And i was wondering if there was any better flow fan blades/clutch fans from other cars that i could go look for at the junkyard that would bolt up? And put on while i've got it apart.

If you're going to install an electric fan, just find a stock replacement and don't spend a lot for a temp. fix.Or,just install the electric fan now and be done with it.

I know... I know...
I just want to take my time on the E-Fan upgrade, And not do a sloppy rush job~I'll also be installing my 3G alt just before i do the e-fan, And i want to be really careful on that install.

Right now i'm concerned with even starting it as is, It makes such terrible whirlwind/jet engine sounds on idle... I really don't want the fan breaking loose or something and causing major damage.
The car is not being driven yet, But i do like to start it at least a couple times a week when it's not being worked on.

I could get a fan clutch/clutch fan combo at the local yard for like $13.00 but i've been advised against getting a "used" fan clutch.

New clutches at Autozone are always an option then.

well if you dont drive it, pull the fan off! Just dont let the car run for too long and over heat.

stick a bolt in it so it doesn't clutch. My basic understanding is that the clutch is there just to stop it for draining alot of power from the belt.

For about 10 bucks you can buy a spacer kit and eliminate the clutch.

New ones are $50 from 50resto.  Supposedly there is a "police package" one for the 5.0 as well.

^smartest way to go

anyway, yeah most fan clutches are the same.  The bolts that hold the fan to the clutch are short.  If you install on thats too long, you will damage interior parts to the point that the longer bolt makes the clutch become solid.  Pretty decent temporatry fix for something on the way out anyway.

Alright, Sounds good.

So i'll just go ahead with the "Bolt-Through" plan for now. :hick:

I have the *Police Interceptor* fan clutch on mine. With the stock radiator and a 180* thermostate I never get past 4 bars with the AC set on 72* in the summer. That's in 90*+ heat either sitting in traffic or on the highway at 70 mph. With the stock fan it would always go to 5 bars with the AC on.

New ones are $50 from 50resto.

The pictures from the 50resto site show them to be non-OEM. No different than the stuff you get at local parts stores.
