Title: Where has courtesy gone?
Post by: SSX on March 02, 2008, 10:55:31 AM
So I went outside yesterday to drive the Cougar and noticed my license plate frame was broken. Now I wasn't all that happy with the thing and was thinking of removing it, so I wasn't that concerned and figured somebody tapped me lightly when getting out of their parking spot. Upon closer inspection, the license plate holder is broken in two corners and is cracked completely along the top. In addition to this the bumper is scratched up (managed to sand it a bit and touch it up) but the plate holder looks horrible. Whoever hit me must have hit me fairly hard and known that he caused damage, but there was no note or anything. Now it is not like I would have gotton the police or insurance involved with something like this, but it would have been nice to at least get a note about it. I guess a little common courtesy is a bit to much to ask for these days. I'm going to need a new front plate holder, but I'll post about that in the wanted section. That is correct!  Sorry, no prizes for winning, but you do get the lovely satisfaction of knowing the correct answer.

I'm constantly losing hope for this world.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone straight up kicked it or hit with something and walked off.

We live in a pretty nice neighborhood, Dont get many troubles around here... But apparently my dad forgot to lock his drivers side door on his car last night, And goes out this morning ready for work to find someone got into his car and stole random things that werent even worth the time? (a dozen $1 reusable shopping bags, Voters Papers and an old hand held CB Radio).

Then my dads friends keeps having troubles with his 95 5.0 (Custom Paint Job) Mustang in seattle, its gotten keyed (fixed it) then it got paint thrown on it.

My moms '89 caravan is ready to retire very soon anyway, but still... Keeps getting random dents in the sides (where someone parking next to you would hit it with there car door...)

Theres no respect or courtesy at all anymore.

I hate people in parking lots a week after buying my 99 expedition i came home to find my wife went out to the store with it. Someone who tried paring next to her pulled in hit my bumper dented it and twisted it into the headlight... no note no nothing thats why i usually take up 2 spots when i park noone can hit the sides that way.

just wait till two civics pull up on either side of you anyways. I used to do that in my dad's 78 e-150. Now I just park far away. I can walk.

You ever notice it's when you park close is when door dings occur?  Maybe it's because America needs to walk in order to slim down and not have to open the  doors so far;)

Never park next to a 2-door car. Their doors are too big.

i got a guy at my apartmen complex that keeps randomly parking in people's spots. I turned him in to the office and they gave him a 24 hour towing notice. He moved down two spots every morning.

Same thing happened to me; one day, getting ready to go to work, I go outside to see my license plate on the ground and the plastic mounting base broken and half detached. No note, no middle finger, nothing.

It's sad. Really sad.

I've been sitting in my car in parking lots and been hit by a little old lady in her new buick on more than one occasion.  They back up, give you a dirty look and go on there merry way.  Watched an old lady smack a concrete light pole base in a parking lot right in front of me.  She backed up a couple inches and got out and went into the store, never even looked at the car.

want courtesy? stay off the roads.  i had to deal with some punk kid in a grandma's buick trying to race me and block me from getting around slower traffic.  so i waited for him to get in the right lane, nothing infront of me, and a car turning infront of him.  i hit the brakes to slow down with the car infront of him and it gave him NO room to leap out in traffic so he got left behind.  stupid kids.

also in the same town i was in the left lane cruisin about 50-55mph and all of a sudden a big ass suv crossed the road and i had to jump on the brakes and basically turn her sideways and regather it when the coast was clear... i didnt even lock on the wheels on the wet road.  i was 75% ready to turn around n hunt them down b/c of the adrenalin but after that wore off i just drove on and cooled down.

some people just have no reguard for other people on the road its sickening.  im not suprised at all you got rearended with no note.  i had a lil ol grandma back into my car in a pk lot and she didnt do any damage so i kinda just looked at her like "WTF?!?!" n she ignored me and drove away.  i should have said she caused all the ses on my back bumper but it was a lil ol lady n she didnt do nothin really.  thats courtesy for people being ignorant idiots.  it doesnt pay off b/c you give em an inch they take a mile.

arent you one of the smallest guys on here... LOL.

i parked in two spots at school until they tried to give me tickets for double parking so now i park crooked as possible so that its harder for all the kids with their daddy bought cars and the ones with threre POS that dont care dont hit me with teir doors.

I think the best courtesy shock is when i back in at QT with my subs all the way up and give it alittle gas with the open Flows and all the old people give me this look of disapproval until they see me waiting to go in because i'm holding the door for them or aomeone else. dont judge me by what you see.

No one cares enough about their own stuff to have courtesy to show concern for your stuff

and thus,, becoming a part of the road rage problem.  Hows about keeping your eyes forward and just drive the speed limit and ignor the stupidity.  Imagine explaining to the judge what you were trying to do if any of that turned out bad,,, ill bet not.:D

ever think about how stupid you may have looked partiting with the other stupid person in the eyes of those watchng from behind?

The only way it would have come out bad is if the kid jumped infront of the car behind me and caused an accident.  wouldnt have been my fault what so ever.  he was cutting EVERYONE off.  he caused 3 drivers to get off the road b/c he cut them off repeatedly or nearly caused them to wreck.  to be honest.  i could care less what people on the road think of me.  if i was worried about what people thought of me, i prolly wouldnt be sticking with my 20+ year old car thats constantly falling apart and being repaired.  if i was so insecure, i think my car would embarrass me.

oh also if you ignore people that act retarded, drive aggressive, change lanes to a lane with bumper to bumper traffic causing almost a pile up, you'll become a victem of someone that probably doesnt have insurence.  sorry not taking that chance, i'd rather be aware of other drivers and avoid them or get them away than just drive along like the idiots NOT over there.

He might be.  I aint.  America's future is Jabba the Hut if the average kid doesn't get out & throw a ball around once in a while...

There's nothing wrong with some extra poundage, but some people....Well there's just no excuse.

Believe me I know. I work at a public library and I'm amazed at the ammount of overweight kids. I don't remember there being that many overweight kids when I was in grammar school. Back then we actually used to go out and play base ball though instead of playing it on a *game system*............

Hell I'm 5'9" and 156 lbs. I think I'm overweight :hick:

You guys ever see that movie "Pay it Forward"?

Great philosophy for driving.  Be kind to another driver.  It is contagious.  Don't repay jerks by being a jerk.  There's nothing a jerk hates more than to be ignored.  Try it sometime.

Parking in the right spot in a parking lot is an art. You can't park too far away as to attract attention. Just far enough to make it look like, if possible, another car in the crowd. Some people look for far away parkers. :hick:  If possible, never park next to another two door vehicle as stated earlier in this thread. If you have to walk a little, it's worth it, and saves a little money on body repair to boot. ;) . Never mind the stress on your body because of the anger you create at being angry or getting even which, if you know better, is NEVER healthy for your brain or the rest of your body that has to deal with your anger all the same (Getting even never truly happens anyway - it is self decieving). Never park in the crowd, unless you are the first car, and don't park too straight, but, DO NOT make it too obvious and park as to let people know that you are trying to protect your car. Just enough to keep others away without anouncing your intentions. I do drive people a bit crazy when it comes to parking, BUT :shakeass: , I have not had another vehicle ding me in a VERY, VERY long time. Very long time indeed. and if it happens tomorow........I WILL get over it. As much as I LOVE my cars, Life goes on.

AND REMEMBER: If you have something nice, some moron (reaping what he sows) who doesn't, and thinks he/she has the right to correct this, for whatever stupid mixed up reason (which is why they will never ever ever be happy even if they had everything they wanted), will try to correct it for you. Sometimes, people just suck. :disappoin

Ok. eye dun.

By prking in a way that my door won't get dinged I am being kind.  I won't feel the need to yell and scream at the other person.;)  Who knows...We may pass each other in the lot while I smile an say hello.:D

I only drive my 88 just to take a drive, to a cruise night, or a car show since I have the 95 as a daily driver. I never park the car and walk away unless I have a friend watching it (at a cruise night or show).

After this thread do you guys still think I'm nuts for the things I do to keep the 88 nice? ;)

Not at all...!

You know, I've never really had a problem parking in lots *knock on wood*, where I find the lack of understanding and coutesy, is, well, yes, the government.

Environment Canada released a 'report' of sorts to the Environment Minister John Baird, in it was a recommendation that one of the major sources of pollution is the old, and I quote "junk cars".  The report when on to say, the government should work to s these older cars.  There are no detailed specifics of what that means (yet :beatyoass: ), but John Baird just loved the idea.

I am very frusterated... I am a university student living in a rural community, with quite the commute to classes.  I keep my car running well, fix any and all problems that arise, and she fly's through her emissions tests... I am talking about my Daily Driver, Cougar X.  No thought to the little man I guess.

Where it really just urks me to no end, is, although my Cougar may not look her best (still pretty darned good if I do say so myself), she runs her best and I absolutly love her (actually, I love them all)

So, I wrote a letter to the environment minister and told him what I thought.

If it's not some smuck in the parkin' lot, an over-zealous police officer, it's the darned government!  Grr.... :beatyoass:

Here's to Environment Canada's Report: :flame: or as I prefer nothing but :toilet:

Go Cougar Go!

Jeese, sorry about the long rant... I just needed to get that off my chest.  :)

The problem with that argument is that the percentage of cars on the road that fit that "old junk" category is very low. Most cars on the road by now are '96 or newer with OBD II and all the pollution control that has.

What's also funny is half the time I wonder if the powers that be that make pollution control laws actually care about the environment. I've heard of people being given a "certified non-pass" sticker or something if you prove that you've tried to get your car to pass by spending X amount of money towards emissions equipment and thus the sales tax dollars from that go to the bigwigs' pockets.

@SSX's video...WOW. Just MF'ing WOW. At that point your IQ is less than that of DIRT. YES something that is not actually animated is smarter than you. Con-friggin-gradulations. How people that stupid exist is a puzzle that the smartest people on earth will never solve.

OMMFG  that woman must have been drunk.  i mean how the heeeeeell do people drive like that.  it was like she didnt know how to reverse.  i dont think she knows how to turn left or right in reverse... only 1 of them.  but someone that hits 2 other cars a total of 5 times and just drives off HAS to be drunk after that display.
