Title: Seat Braces
Post by: Skunk on February 27, 2008, 01:44:31 PM
Hey guys. I am trying to convince Chuck W to make up a batch of his seat braces. He needs to see if there is enough interest in them to make it worth doing so please speak up if you want them. Chuck will have to chime in give us a price. Here are a couple of pics thanks to Martin0660.

Before I want some, where do they go and what do they brace.
My ass isn't that big to need a seat brace.

they are added to a set of subframe connectors and tie into the rear attaching bolts for the front seats. they help reinforce the weakest part of the floorpan.

Guys - If you have a TC, these are such a HUGE upgrade. Basically, you can go to your local steel supply place, buy 2 pieces of 1 x 2 (or 1 1/2" x 2) steel tubing, these braces from Chuck, and make your own subframe connectors and tie that car together. Going this route, you can save the shipping cost of the straight tube and sourve it locally. They made such a HUGE difference on my old TC, the car just drove better with them (not to mention at the track).

Beyond supporting the sreat, they act like a cross member supporting the middle of the SFC tying it into the floor between the factory subframes.

If would be all over a set if I still had a TC. Heck, if he makes a run, I might buy a set to have around just to have in case I get another TC. I keep telling Frank to go to my old Chassis with a sawzall and cut them out, grind the tubing off, and get them on his '83. They are just sitting there with the poor old car ;)

I was just thinking on the way home tonight, how could I strengthen the floor on my car. Cause lets face it. there's some thin metal on some parts of our cars.

I was going to add some cross bracing my self. I already started welding the floor to the braces inside. this would save me a few steps.

So I voted, yes

me too for the same reason, if it works.  I'm going inside the floor with the SFC's, not the underneath type.

From what I can surmise....Is this the same thing as the cross bracing on the Kenny Brown SFC's?  If so I' Have those already.  They would be invaluable to anyone with straight SFC's with out crossbeams.

Hell, you could market these things all over the place!  The bolts through the floor pan on a Fox 'Stang are the same distance apart, are they not?

No..... the stangs are different. Otherwise I would have just grabbed a set of them instead.

Thanks for the update Chuck.

Nope, they are different.  Just ask 32VFoxBird...or whatver his screenname is.  The Tbirds/Cougars are at least 2" wider.

Ah yes.....The seat track issue....Brainfart. Not really that difficult to modify for Mustang use and sale for them though...;)

Yep, I bought full-length MM subframes for a Mustang and the cross-braces are in a pile of spare steel stock now :hick:

I wonder if can I fit them in since I already have the MM subframes installed.

No idea.

These are made to fit a 2" wide piece of tube that runs straight between the two subframes (no offsets).

Title: Installation question
Post by: t3skidoo on May 09, 2008, 01:19:22 AM
Would it be better to weld the brace to the floor or bolt it in?  May sound silly but I'm not a metallurgist.

It looks like the reinforcement plates for the seat mounts need to be massaged for the crossbrace to sit flat.

I cut the inside lips off the seat supports on the car and I'm welding it to the floor and original supports. Bolting may be your easier option though.

They are meant to be bolted in, but I suppose if you wanted you could weld them, but there really isn't a need to.

As far as the reinforcment plates go.  First, replace the studs w/ bolts (about 40mm long).  On the 12mm side, the nut plate in the floor is tall enough, but on the 8mm side, you will need a little bit of spacer between the nut plate and the crossbrace.
