Boyd Coddington dead at age 63.....

That's pretty messed up...only 63 years old too.
I'd probably feel more loss had he actually worked on his company's creations for the last 10 years or so. As it was, he just signed his name to them and had the first turnkey test drive. Although he did a lot for charity and for helping kids and families at car shows.
Wonder how the shop is going to run now...
WHAT a shocker. The hot-rodding community is at a great loss for sure. And yeah he mighta been an ass to some people but he sure did make some neat stuff.
as much as he seemed to be a dick, alot of his employees stayed, and as far as you can tell from the show, theres not way they didnt get payed well.
At least we still got foose
I feel bad for his family, but I feel no loss for a scam artist.
WOW!!! That's a pretty serious allegation. I'm just DYING to hear the justification for that.
Bout time.
Selling off New builds as originals, and having them registered as such to avoid taxes and emissions regulations. Not to mention that his customers can turn around and sell a brand new car to some unsuspecting schmoe as an original '32 Ford (as an example, and likely the most popular hot rod out there). He
was taken to federal court, he
did make a guilty plea, and he
was a scam artist. A negative influence in our hobby. And if he was anything like he portrayed himself on his show in real life, then he was an arse as a person too.
I know. Speak well of the dead, right? Sorry about that, but I make it a habit not to be a fake.
oddly, I just got done reading the March issue of "Auto Restorer" in which they said he was hospitalized, had surgery, and was recovering. Apparently not. Not a fan of his communication skills, but he sure did have an eye for what a Rod could look like.
how did he die?
My guess is it was from the stress induced by working with his wife AND his ex-wife. That'd kill any man.
The latest report I had heard was that he actually passed away last night, not this morning, and it was from Cirrhosis of the liver.
Please don't quote me on that one just yet, as I'm not 100% sure if it's correct yet or not.
never liked his cars, and hated the show. but still its never a good thing when someone goes that young!
rip
A disease caused by excessive alcohol cunsumption...
Which is caused by having to work with your wife AND your ex-wife. ;)
*MAYHEM*, while I'm not going to say I disagree with you, I will also say that there are other causes of Cirrhosis. One of them being diabetes. Being a diabetic myself, I have looked into and researched this in extent.

If you have the time, give that a read.
He speaks the truth! :punchballs:
Sorry, man. Was jus' kiddin' around.
Never met the guy so I have no idea what he was like in person, but I sure won't judge him by a "reality" teevee show.
It's all good, I knew ya were, but just wanted to add that there's more than excessive alcohol that can cause it is all. You didn't hurt my feelings in the least.
Mostly didn't care for his work...
Sorry he's dead, he had quite a talent even if I didn't appreciate it...
His earlier stuff put him on the map. The last few years were not too kind to him what with Foose coming into his own and the whole thing with the false titles (he caught a misdemeanor conviction for that -- coulda been MUCH worse).
I've never really discussed the aspect of the TV show with anyone other than my wife....
I feel the show destroyed him.
The Tuetul clan was smart enough to use the camera to their advantage keeping employee interaction on camera to a minimum in the beginning. Certain employees were given the green light for face time as the show progressed. This was no accident. I don't know if it was the producers of the show or the Teutuls, but whoever did that was smart.
Boyd on the other hand, had his dirty laundry on display from day one. We all have some. Seems he had a lot more than average and he had a cast of egomaniacs to go along with it. Many of them seem VERY unprofessional. I strongly dislike Duane. I'm sorry to say it -- I think he is a pompous ass.
I think a lot of it had to do with personality as well. I feel most people could relate to the Teutuls more than Boyd.
RIP sir. My condolenses to the Coddington clan.
Well I personally loved the show... hell it gave me, and still does.. influence to go out and make one-off things for my Cougars and Birds...
RIP Boyd....
All I can say is that he had a very good life. Money, Fast Cars and Pretty Women.
TED
Pretty women like his wife or ex-wife :barf:
those are the "maids" ;)
