O.K.,for weeks,I have been really good about buying the parts I NEED to get the Sport finished under the hood, the mechanicals underneath (rebuild and replace my 8.8),5 speed parts, etc.Well, over the last wek or so,I've lost my concentration on the "need" list and have wandered over to the "want" list.I bought a brand new 2004 Mach 1 chin spoiler,Mustang GT steering wheel, and today,2 extra Cobra R wheels ($100.00 for the pair). Now,this puts me further behind on getting the "needs' taken care of,then paint.I have GOT to get back on track and stay focused,or I'll never get the a/c and 5 speed in,then the paint job I've been wanting for 10 months.
Great deals only come around once in a blue moon. You can't pass on them. You'd be kicking yourself after the AC 5speed and paint thinking about what you could've had.
focus ur telling me my car is sitting in the garage up on jacks with no motor or driveline and race season is 2 months away. i still havent got an engine or even decided on what rearend i want to get either a 9 inch or 8.8. i still have to put my urethane bushings in my rear control arms as well and bolt them in then run fuel line, wiring, and order the hei distributor.
Wel,it's true that some deals are few and far between.I already have the T5,bellhousing,and fork ($202.00+shipping),another 8.8 with 3.55's ($120.00),and the list goes on and on.I have a whole stockpile of pieces to install.I really need to get the a/c stuff installed so I can get the car painted, though.Cruises start in May around here, and I really want to show the car off.......in a good way.I suppose I'd better hit the boneyards and get it all to Ebay stat.
haha i know the feeling man!!
Well Vinnie, that's better than when the repairs on the daily driver pull away from your "project" fund. At least the $$ are still going towards your projects, even if you are losing focus on your "needs".
I'm pretty much focused on putting the body back on. although I am looking for a motor. So you never know, It could happen to me too.
What I would do, is paint. Then you could do whatever you want to it, as far as upgrades.
At least you are finding parts:burnout: every time I start a project the parts dry up and I have to move on to another:D till I run into what I was looking for.
It never ends,If you ever finish your car,you won't know what to do with your free time.Hum,new project!!
Here's to "mission creep"
btw
:ttiwwp:
Oh yes try working on 2 projects at once. Those certain want items only come around once in awhile and you have to jump on them.
I am bad about accumulating loads of parts before actually turning a wrench.
I have created a system around here to keep everything sorted out and remember what I have already. Those giant storage tubs at Wally World work great. I sort out parts according to what they fit and part type. Similar parts in the same tub. Take two of those notebook sheet protectors and glue one to the top and one to the long side. I create an inventory list with a bold header like Suspension, Brakes, Electrical, then list all the items in the tub. I can go back later and find the exact tub I am looking for and get or add a part as needed. Larger items are harder to deal with. Heavy things like engines, trannies, or axle assemblies I used pallets for that.
At times I have had so much STUFF coming in I wasn't able to sort it quick enough. I was stacking boxes in the living room and kitchen. LOL That goes over well with the girlfriend. UPS and FedEx know exactly what I daily drive and if they see me around town during the day they will wave me down so they don't have to make an out of the way stop to my house. That's bad!!!!!
I live in that world Hillbilly.I'm going back to the "needs" so I can actually use my "wants".I can't paint the car until the rest is mostly finished.I don't want to be hanging over new paint installing the a/c system, adding the diff, installing the 5 speed.I don't want to take any chances doing that kind of work.Too many possibilities for scratching it up.I was recieving about 3 packages a week of parts.I'm actually still doing that. It'll slow down when there's warmer weather consistantly and some more time to do "hands on" with the car. When I'm stuck inside because it's cold,I spend a lot of time looking for parts........and finding them.LOL
A 2004 Mach 1 chin spoiler fits a turbo coupe? Does anyone have pics of this? Sorry if I sound clueless but I didn't know.
-what he said.........:hick:
I always buy way too much off my "want" list.
That's why I have ebay "battle boxes" that have been sitting in a box for 2 years, and bought wheels for my truck before I had actually even bought it (but I couldn't pass up the deal...discounttiredirect.com was running a $100 off special with free shipping, so I got them for $271)
Sometimes I even forget exactly what I have. doh
I have passed up on tons of deals because I don''t have the Coug yet.
Cobra IRS - $400
WC T5 new - $450
TC doner parts car $300 (still in play)
Cobra upper/Lower $225
Trick flow aluminum heads $600
I only shop for budgeting purposes.:D
I was told that the Mach 1 chin spoiler would fit,so,I bought one.Gotta look bettere than that y little factory chin spoiler.
I do the same thing. I was shopping for a 65mm TB for my Explorer intake and I stumbled on a pair of mandral bent 2.5" tails. Well I wasn't expecting to replace my 2.25 cat back yet (the H pipe is 2.5") but I figured what the heck. I now have a complete 2.5" cat back as well as a GT40 style intake to install when the weather finally breaks. I spend too much money on this car:hick: The car really needs a headliner but hell I'd rather put in go fast parts :burnout:
I've been havin that problem for a LONG time, vinnie. I really NEED to get a fuel pump for my car, yet I find myself using my spending money on putting in my rear gears and getting my fun project engine.
Yeah, I've done that. I had the whole suspension out and started on the interior resto. Got the interior and suspension back in and painted the car (and subsequently re-removed the interior), but not after gathering up some 351 swap parts (headers, Chucky mounts, electric fan, etc). Now the 351 is sprawled all over the garage and the suspension needs immediate attention (broken spring). So what do I do? I start looking for a head unit to replace the Kenwood Excelon that I removed and installed in the Lincoln, then sold it. Not to mention my various lighting projects (LED tails and front turn signals).
That's why this year I have decided to focus on getting the car drivable, and driving it this summer. Swaps or other major upgrades will be on hold while I enjoy my new suspension, brakes, rear, and most of all, looks.
... either on the car (preferable), or patiently waiting for installation.
For example:
Here's a pic of the new blower I got off ebay. I was going to get dual exhaust with that money, but the deal was too good to pass up.
Fine, you asked for it.Sometime over the next two days (my days off),I'll gather up some stuff I have waiting to go on the car and a couple of pics to show. The things I do for you guys.LOL.
Got a supercharger sitting around got a cam i can't use unless i upgrade the heads or springs and got my windows tinted and vinyl in between the side windows to cover up the fadded paint and my EQ was sliding around and spent money to get it mounted.
