Title: Ford made(makes) 427s right
Post by: capitlj on March 01, 2005, 12:11:50 AM
I got into a heater arguement with my mothers husband, whos an a#* hole BTW, about weither or not for made a 427.  His arguement was that only GM made that motor size, mine was that Shelby american has some kind of exclusivity deal with ford and how could he have made the Incredible, awesome, and stupefying 427 Cobra
I know im right but i still like to hear it.

Yes ford made a 427. It is part of the FE family. 390, 427, 428...
I know I missed a few numbers in there.

That V 10 is sweet Sh*t I always wanted a viper engine to put in something now If they build it i wont have to rely on py crysler stuff

a 427 is also alot smaller then a viper engine. I was argueing which was better the f-150 lighting or the dodge srt-10 truck with a dodge guy. All that he said the whole time was viper this, viper that. I find it amazing that they say that the viper engine is more powerful, when it is only 500hp, where the lightning is 550hp. I also find it hilarrious that the 5.4 v-8 puts out more power then the 8.3 v-10. Although I would rather have a viper, the 7 to 10 mpg would kill me. If I got a viper for free, I would go throgh a set of tires, and then sell it and get like 20 cougars and make them faster. well I might "let" the viper "sit" around for a while.

SRT 10 is N/A.  That 5.4 you speak of has forced induction.  Imagine what a 9PSI WhippleCharger would do ontop of a Viper Motor. :headbang:

Wasn't the last production Lightning 395 hp?  I thought just the concept Lightning was the one that had 550 hp. :dunno:
Also you can tow with the Lightning, the SRT10 says towing not recommended. Dodge just went all out to have the fastest truck, but forgot that people actually use these trucks. :giggle:

at least they put a stick in the srt10. ford maybe could have gone with the 6 speed. i think they should have anyway.

Yep, the 6 speed is cool, but that's also why you can't tow anything with th SRT10. :D  It's basically the wole Viper drivetrain in a truck body. The new Roush trucks can be had with 500+ horsepower, not sure if a manual is available or not. :dunno:

I think cougarman i right about that hp rating im pretty sure the stock lightning are around 350 hp.  But think about it the SRT 10 is faster and looks meaner than a lightning, and im sure that the Roush truck cant touch $50,000.  The SRT 10 is a sweet package i got to drive one for about an hour that was pretty cool not very comfortable though.  They just started making them with an extended cab, but the one i drove was a standard cab kinda cramped for me.

How old is your Mother's husband? Is he 12?

I can't imagine any real car guy over the age of 20 who has never heard of the Shelby 427 Cobra or the 427 powered Ford GT-40's - the Mark IV.

His head has been in the sand.

I just can't imagine a Ford guy or a car guy who doesn't know who Carroll Shelby is or what a 427 Cobra looks like.

332('58 & '59) and 406('62 & early '63)... 427s came in low riser('63), medium riser('65), and high riser('64)(refers to intake port size) as well as tunnel port and over head cammer versions. Side oiler just referes to the revised oiling system introduced on the '65 medium riser and later 427s. '63 to early '65 427s were center oilers like all the other FE engines.

my Dad is a fan of shelby. He is also really big on (excuse the spelling) andiy granatellie(Wow I suck). He didnt even know that there was a cobra with a 427. I was playing test drive 6 and I showed him my cobra, and he said ford never made a 427. He thought that they all had 428's and that it was a misprint.

far as I know, '99 Lightnings had (factory #s, btw) 385 hp, 440lb-feet torque...Chevy's 302 was a destroked 327, I think it may have had a 305 crank, someone here will know for sure, it was made for the Trans-Am Series, as was the Boss 302 Mustangs in '69 and '70...

Yes the Z28 302 was a destroked 327, but when it was built('67-'69), the 305 was still 7 years in the future(1976). The Chevy 302 used a 3" crank(same stroke as the Ford 302), it was borrowed from the 283 which had less bore size.

Btw the 305 uses the same 3.48" stroke as a 350, but has a tiny bore...
