Is it just me or does there just seem to be lots of overpriced cars being listed for sale lately?
I’m not talking about someone who might have a really nice, low mileage (enter car here) for example and is reaching for the stars hoping someone has to have it and will bite. I’m talking about the beater that’s sitting rusting away in the backyard being used as a dog house.
That is until the seller is flipping through the TV channels and sees a car that looks like theirs selling for a bazillion dollars at the BJ auction.
Sad thing is by the time the seller realizes the car isn’t worth what they thought; the dog no longer even wants to stay in it.
If you have a great example please post the picture, specs and price here.
Please stay objective, and if someone posts a car which is really worth the bucks don’t beat him up, maybe we can all learn what real prices should be in this price inflated age of TV auctions.
Also keep sentimental value out of this too. I love my 83 TBird, to me it’s worth $xx,xxx but realistically I might get $5000.00 on a good day.
Have fun and I’ll start.
CLASSIC--1971 Dodge Dart Swinger FOR SALE!!!! - $10000
70K miles, some rust, poor repaint, broken rear window, has been covered with tarp.
I know Mopars are hot these days but $10,000 ???? Correct me if I’m wrong.
I believe every price is negotiable!,Look how I tried to chew you down once.sorry I didn't take it.
Of course prices are always negotiable... but the starting price should somewhat close to fair market value.
You would have never came to look at the TC if I listed it for $5000.
I was in a good mood that day and came down to $850 and you still didn't take it! :hick:
You missed a good one!;)
I think this one is on the high side. 91 Mustang 97K miles $11,000

X-303 heads, E-cam, 150 shot nitrous plate, couple of other goodies, still 4 lug.
Guess I'll start the asking price for mine at $9500 :hick:
Less only because of obscurity ;)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LINCOLN-MARK-VII-LSC-SE-5-0-HO-EFI-GARNET-RED-CLEARCOAT_W0QQitemZ320216803497QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320216803497
ant the reserve is not set.ive been looking to sell mine 2500
Dream sellers don't factor in public desirability per car model.
Hey Rod,I'm sorry I didn't,My mistake!
"If you wanted a NEW Mark VII when they were available and missed one, here is your last chance to have one this mint"
WTF.
What makes it worth $45,000?
:toilet: there is no 70's dart worth 10k restored, mint original or whatever period.
this is why i wont be able to own a decent mopar someday.
even the four door cars are getting out of hand these days
And no doubt a 318, auto on the tree.
Only Mopar I would ever want is a '73 charger SE Brougham, Red wit black vinyl top, 340, pistol grip. Just like I had when I was a kid.
But I'd definately be upgrading the alt and voltage reg.
Thats a very nice car. Someone who is looking for a low mile gorgeous 5.0 mustang will pay 11,000 for it. Decent ones sell for 7-8 here all the time.
Or even this one can you imagine someone buying this?

If it was a Z28, it would actualy get that, crazy I know, but it would. Like the mustangs, it's a popularity thing. I know someone at work that is into them and has books on some of this stuff. He has a Z28 that's had work done to it, a bit like that, and he paid around that for it.
It is mine, A shameless plug. I am trying to sell it so I can get a Late model GT mustang.
The car is almost in mint condition. I will miss it I have had it for lke 10 years. But I am a Ford Guy.
Me needs to unload the Chevy.
Hey, no shameless plugs here...I'm looking for overpriced beaters! :)
I agree the Mustang might have been a good deal for someone looking for that car. The Mark VII...just someone showing off their car...didn't sell by the way so maybe you could contact the seller and get it for only $40,000! :D
What about this 71 Torino??
"$4500. great for restoration.65% complete on older restoration.Rolling chasis."
Come on, $4500 for just the body? I know it doesn't look too bad (older restoration???) but without a # matching drivetrain, it's only good for a resto-mod or donor for a desirable 71 Torino. I'm thinking $1500-$2000 would be plenty.. No??
The reason for the high price of Muscle car era cars is simple. Many baby boomers who remember the cars as kids want one to relive their youth. These boomers have lots of disposable income as their kids have left the nest and many are in their late 50s-early 60s. They are all going after a limited number of cars which raises the prices. Muscle car era prices are going to continue to get silly because there are a lot of baby boomers who have a shiznit ton of disposable income. Average joes who want a 70 Torino Cobra for example are screwed. Moral of the story: stick with your 80s T-bird or Cougar. They will be affordable for a long time to come ;)
I understand what drives the muscle car prices......what I was trying to show/find in this thread was the effect these high prices have on people selling plain jane cars of the 60's. (and some very rough examples of them!)
I believe some people will refuse to sell cars like the Dart or Torino listed above since they saw the rare Hi-Po versions of them sell for big $$$ on BJ.
This being said, not only will the average Joe be screwed on Torino Cobras as you said, there are some nice base model cars he'll lose out on too.
I agree, 80's Tbirds and Cougars are affordable...lots of fun for not much money. :)
