After kind of ignoring my T-Bird, while I worked on other projects, I made the mistake of sending a PM to BookSix, who inspired me to get back to it (Don't send PMs to that guy. It can get expensive;) ). Got the Cobra rotors today. Other than the ball joint spacers, which should be here tomorrow, I now have everything I need to do my coilover/5 lug/Cobra brake conversion from Hell (except the wheels).
Now, here's the question. Should I leave the Cobra calipers in their original color, or paint them something like black. Red is a little too much, because I still want the car to be subtle, but I think the smooth caliper paint will be easier to clean than the porous factory finish that's on them now. Thoughts?

I say keep them black, I don't have any opinions on caliper paint, since I have never used it.
I've used a high heat black and it worked out fine.
I love my Cobra brakes. I dont have drilled and slotted rotors but I have NEVER experienced brake fade with these even when slowing down from 140 MPH. Granted I've never had them on a track but I gurauntee they are more than enough brake for spirited street/canyon driving or auto x.
I wouldn't worry about cleaning them. I've never had to clean mine. I guess the heat or basic car washes take care of that. I vote that you dont paint them.

I like the look of gloss black. Sand down the Cobra's when your done to make them silver. I think that would look pretty sharp.

PAINT them black (don't leave them black). A nice new coat will do wonders. Use duplicolor high temp engine paint, low gloss. Screw caliper paint, it comes off... never had this stuff come off anything yet (including my whole engine, no primer). I just got my cobra rears and black looks sweet! Can't wait to redo the fronts, red to black.
Also, IMHO, you should ditch the cobra writing on the calipers (can that be ground off?? - otherwise just paint over it). Your car is not a silly cobra mustang! LOL
I polished a set for one of my friends.The Cobra lettering came off pretty easy with a 5 inch sanding disc.They looked awesome.
I used VHT semi-gloss black, still looks great after three years of use.
they look the bast left stock imo. also, get some braided lines for those as they make a big differance.
So far at least, I think I'm going to go with black calipers, but I think I'll keep the Cobra lettering as opposed to sanding it off. Polished is a cool idea, though. It may be a little flashy for my taste. I'm not even going to use high polished wheels this time. I was thinking of something with a magnesium finish. In the short term, I'm going to go with a set of anthracite Bullitts. If I like them on there, I might even keep them for a while.
Yes, UM, definitely using braided lines. I just haven't started piecing the thing together yet.
Another question. The shocks and coilovers that I bought a long time ago are for a Fox Mustang. I've read in different posts that they will work and that they won't work. Of course the company that sold them to me said they'll work. What's the real story?

i removed this set from an 04 cobra, in 05, when he upgraded to StopTechs. the rust on the pad springs and rotors is from sittin around not being used since then, but the calipers look the same as when removed.

if i ever decided to paint them, i am sanding the "cobra" off at the same time; but the paint wont stay on em where im goin anyhow.....
I have been shoping for a set of cobra calipers. I notice there are differences in the part numbers for them. 94-95, 99-2002, 2002-2003, 2003+. What the difference in them? I have learned that pre 99 had 38mm pistons, laters had 40mm. Sometime during 2002-2003 they changed the thread pitch on the banjo bolt. Late 2003 they changed back to the original banjo bolt. Are these basically all interchangable except for piston size and banjo bolt? Oh if you are looking for brake hoses check out Maximum Motorsports. They have one that fits 87-93 to Cobra calipers without adapters.

What company sold them to you? What company makes them? I talked for hours with a company that not only said they worked on a mustang but that they KNEW 100% they'd work on my thunderbird with 17x9 cobra R's (at that time Mark VII rotors in the front). Of course, they needed about an inch more clearance (not gained until an a-arm change 5 yrs later). They refused to return them...
Anyway, they will work fine as far as bolting up, just depends on space behind the tire. what size wheels and tires?
They worked on my car. I bought my setup from Maximum MotorSports. I have 16X8's w/245/50s on but it only has about 1/4" clearance between the coil and the tire. Although that is also with MVII rotors.
They're Granatellis, probably the same as yours. I'm still thinking about tires and wheels, but right now I think I'm going to use 17X8 fronts with a 5.72 backspace (30mm offset) and 18X9 rears with a 5.94 backspace (24mm offset).
