I have a lid with a working latch, but the leather is dry and cracked.
I'll try to dig it up and take a picture of it.

I'm not sure, the one i am looking at is an 83, I don't know if the lids will interchange.

ok, I got the console out of the donor car today, the lid is curved at the rear and  the release is in front. the lid is broken, but the release is in perfect shape!  i don't know if it makes a difference, but it has a grove running down the center of the top. if it would work, how much do you want? here are picks of what I have, the metal peice in the middle was my attempt to fix it. but it won't hold up to abuse.

I gotta work a lot and i would not take more than a few dollars might take awhile to get it sent your way not forever i almost got it for free so not more than maybe $5-10 + shipping but i work at snoic so maybe i could get a box to ship it in but tell me if the other one works then i will see or do you just want the lid for it?

I wonder if there would be much of a difference? let me see how it fits, and I would let you know.  my only worry with this one so far is that the radio bezel will not interchange. if I use this one I will have to McGyver it a bit to make it work. if yours will work better, i might just buy yours.

don't hack the 83-84 radio bezel please. i'm sure someone on here can get you the correct one. those 83-84 pieces are hard to find. the 83-84 console is the same as the 85-88 except for the plate around the shifter and the radio bezel. some got the thick arm pad and some got the thin one. i'm still looking for 83-84 the shifter plate in good condition. the 83-84 shifter plate is straight across on the edge that meets the dash and the 85-88 on has the front edge that is slanted where the passenger side is shorter than the 83-84 unit.

what color is the stuff you have? it might just be easier to buy what you got. I started looking at where the switches would go for my windows and stuff and I'm not sure it will work. let me know how much please.

also i forgot to tell you that the 83-84 has a round joystick type power mirror switch and the 85-88 have a square button type mirror switch. the mirror switch and power window switches changed spots from the early ones to the later ones. also my arm rest pad cracked like yours did. instead of the flat metal brace you need braces on the side areas. i fixed mine my way 7 years ago haven't had any trouble with it since.

yeah, I saw that too. i'm not sure how I'm going to make the switches work with this one. i may have to go with a later one, if so, i'll be offering this one up here.

And IPSD is wrong again!  The 83-84 console is one in its own.

i guess this is where i should say oops sorry i fusked up or i guess i'm not a thunk as smart i was or something like that. i did forget to mention that the 83-84 is a full length console and the 85-88 is not. what ever else there differences are or if 86 night cat can make it work will never be known because mr cougar se can step in and say i'm wrong but doesn't tell us how. maybe he doesn't know or just likes the way it makes him feel to point out that someone is wrong. way to go cougar se thanks for all the help. you did so much to help us out. to step in and someone is wrong without any other input is just as wrong as i am. so thanks again cougar se  and i'm  sorry 86 night car if i misled you just trying to help you get it figured out.

no worries, acually, the that's why i wanted this one, i liked that it was full length. I may need to find a new bezel to use with it, but it's all good.

The 1983-84 console can be made to physically bolt up to a 1985-88 dash. You would definitely need the correct radio panel for the car; those panels don't interchange between 1983-84 and 1985-88. The biggest problem comes in with the tray in front of the radio panel. There is a difference in the angles, where they meet the radio panel. Might have to do some shaving down.

For the console switch panel itself, the window and mirror switches are in opposite positions, and the aforementioned joystick is what controls the mirrors. There may also be a slight wiring difference with the window switch that we've also mentioned on here before. That won't affect the operation of the windows. The power seat and window switches bolt right up to either panel.

The two types of lids (flat or raised) have their own unique undersides that do not interchange. But either lid will fit any console liner. Technically the 1983 lids are a little different; I think it's where the hinge bolts on, something about the holes not being the same as later ones. I have a 1983 lid somewhere that I'll have to dig out one day and verify this, but I do know that it has its own part number. But it would still bolt to the console and work the same as any other lid. It doesn't matter which lid you have...it's just personal preference.

But for the metal brackets that bolt to the floor; the console wiring harness; the console liner; and so on, it will basically interchange without much of an issue.

And just FYI: there is a deeper grain on 1983-84 console panels (tray, switch panel) and the panels are black. The 1985-88 ones are almost smooth in grain, and are a very dark grey. If you want, you could sand the grain down and spray the panels dark grey, and nobody would ever know the difference. That's what I did in the convertible: used a 1984 switch panel, sanded down the grain, and painted it the interior color. Not a problem at all.

By golly IPSD is wrong again.  The 85-88 Consoles are not all short!  The 85-86 units are LONG and the 87-88 units are short.

The 83-84 consoles kinda-sorta fit the later cars.  They don't match up on the bottom of the dash.  The console brackets that bolt to the bottom of the dash on 85-88 cars are not able to be used with an early console in a later car.

So I don't know my consoles?  I knew my snowflakes were 4 lug.  Remember that?  I've sold more consoles than you have seen, given away more consoles than you will ever touch and currently have more console styles than you know exist.
