our shop is so sloooow. I'm down to thurs, fri, and sat to try to save money on daycare. are all the auto repair shops slow? i know there are a few techs on this board so this is mostly to them but anyone can chime in.
My work (local pizza restaurant) was really busy last weekend, probably since it was Superbowl weekend. Not sure about this weekend though.
I actually went out this morning to all the local car lots to try to get some commercial accts. the thing that sux is that i'm flatrate. no work no money. don't mean to carry on but i need to vent some.
Yeah I think it is slow everywhere my buddy works at an auto repair shop and he just went on a Disney Vacation with the family for a week, and he's one of their main guys.. so I guess its like that everywhere cause normally he can't take off.
People just ain't spending $$, I guess when tax money and rebate checks start flying around people will start to spending again.
I think post Christmas lull carries on through mid- Feb. Then people start spending again.
Same goes for selling cars.
Wait till the heat hits. You'll be wishing for a lull.
Well,my work is always steady.I work with elderly and disabled Veterans,so,as long as there are Veterans,I'll have a job.
I've got 25-30 orders already for motor mounts......not slow here.....
I'm working 7 days a week this winter,
I own a construction company, and usually I take off for about 3 months during winter.
This year, me and my son are working right through the winter.
Although, this isn't getting my car done like I had planned.
i work at a parts store and things are slower so far this year compared to last year
Not slow here, but then we're in the coal & mineral processing industry so things are only picking up.
We just got a $300,000-some sale today.
Im a truck mechanic. Just as busy as normal.
The recording business is usually slow these months as well. Fortunately, this year, we are branching out and can't keep up with everything we want to do but that's unusual for the biz.
Are you a producer? I've been a musician for 25 years (hint, hint)
just kidding, I think my music days are over.
I work at a stair and truss manufacturer, people still need roofs over their heads and stairs to go up and down with.
Its been hit or miss for us. one day at a time.
gonna starve to death if it dont pick up.
Yeah, I do production, engineering, programming... lots of different things. Moving more into film and television but still working with artists and working on some things of my own here and there.
I work in a Machine Shop and we have been pretty slow for a couple months now.
I work at a Junior High...and it's been pretty steady every day this week.
Usually slows down on the weekends, though! ;)
My sales were in the shiznitter through November, December and most of January - I sold enough to keep going, but wasn't making buckets of money. The American dollar going down the shiznitter didn't help. I was actually to the point I was considering going back to work full time building cop cars (instead of my current P/T). So far, though, February has been stellar, almost to the point of getting buried in orders.
I work for a company out of Wa state bellingham area / Canada for the US and international cable and phone companies doing all the AC /DC / UPS/ GenSet work as well as some solar as a district ops mgr.
busy as hell.
Overall,, the situation is not looking good especially with all the new holiday revenue reports coming out. Myself and others are paying down bills if they can (ie-recovering layoff) and not getting carried away with non-essential expenses.
i'm about ready to get out of the automotive industry totally. in the 22 years i've been in it i have never seen it this slow. last week 3 local shops closed their doors. its downright depressing.
The reliability battle (and resulting increase) between automakers probably isn't helping.
that and a few years ago when they did all that 0% intrest, anyone who was thinking about a new car got one. so i have no clue what to do. waiting out the factory warranty is not an option.
jcassity, you're in WV and not in the coal biz? :)
Just kidding, although it's not a bad business to be in right now.
I haven't worked since May '05... Course that's my choosin'...
Not slow in my industry (Biotech) in the least. We have more work than people to do it.
working 6 to 7 days a week at sonic about 40-65 hours a week its slow because summer i work 50-80 hours a week. Only bad thing is Subway opened 2 weeks ago and kind of slowed down the place a little bit.
What kind of cooking oil is sonics food cooked in? my local sonics fried foods are bitter.

mjbtbrd- biotech is a good industry to be in ,, should keep a man busy for life imho. BMET certificate/degree and experience was something i was looking into recenly.
BTW My dad is an electrician at UCAR in Anmoore and he's pretty sure he's gonna get laid off. He says they've got nothing to do down there.
