Was on the AJE website today ( http://www.ajeracing.com/index.php ) and it was advertised they have a "new" kmember that accepts any engine with their universal mounts. 1st question: does the 87 turbo coupe A arms fit this tubular kmember, or must you use their A arms?
2nd question: will the TC's steering rack fit this kmember, and
3rd Question, has anyone put one of these in their tbirds/cougars?
I have an 87, but not concerned about keeping stock track width, but don't want to go wider.
i have an AJE in my bird, but it was before they made the one for "universal" mounts. i did notice that the steering shaft came up about 1/4" short of bolting to the steering column. i had to drill another hole, and then use another bolt and nut.
and i am using stock fox mustang control arms on mine.
thanks a bunch. Sounds like I'll go for it. Just didn't want to buy one thing and in turn have to buy another, and another, and another....my luck is like that.
So Fox Mustang K members fit our cars ? I was thinking about getting an AJE k member for a future big block swap.
not an exact fit, but very close. There's a lot of threads on this subject throughtout this forum.
Back from the dead.
I wonder if the 1/4" was off due to the spacer plate under the stang style K member?
There was a plate used, right?
bringing this back up again..
Did you get the kit? or just the k member? got any pics of it?
I've also been looking into this, and would assume that it would bolt right up to my 85 vert
i got the k-member with spring perches. pics are in this thread: http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=12549
I would think spacing down the K-member would have moved the shaft out more than a 1/4" anyway.
Jerry, I didn't buy one yet. I should have bought one when I first started this thread, instead of trying to make it work with the stock one, and then looking for a stock stang type. Oh well. But yeah, I'm looking to use the AJE universal. Then it's a matter of buying the mount plates for whatever engine option that I decide to go with. Was going to throw the car together ASAP, but the buyer of the Saturn hasn't came through. The other thought is whether I can use the stock A-arms I have from the '87 or not. It may bring the wheels in 3/4", but I don't mind. I'm shortening the rear end anyway.
yea, I used 3/8" spacer plates. I can't remember if the shaft issue was with the sn95 column or the stock tbird one.
I guess I'll find out. Shouldn't be a problem to fix. thanks.
I'm thinking about going this route myself. Maybe this winter. I feel it's going to be a long cold winter too.
new farmer's almanac calls for extremely cold Winter and lots of snow for my region. I guess when it rains it pours.
