Anybody put a power moonroof in their fox, did any foxes come with one? How hard would it be to put one in?
yes they came in the foxes. my tbird has a power moon roof. your chances are better most likely with an aftermarket unit. i dont know how much fabrication it would realy take too install it in a car that didnt have one.
The roof on a factory Moon Roof car is actually different than those without(slightly taller at the rear)... Would be an huge undertaking...
wow, cool. i never knew that. i thought they made the room in the headliner. a popup roof could be installed pretty easilly by a shop.
Installing a factory moonroof/sunroof is an almost impossible task.
In addition to what Tom said, the glass rests in its own metal "pan" in the roof, which is formed and stamped at the factory.
Aftermarket is your best choice, and an electric sunroof will most likely be around $750.

Mess with the roof too much and your car will fold up like a pretzel in the event of a wreck. Fvcking with the roof, aside installing a simple pop-up, will severely degrade the structural integrity of the car.
Unfortunately, mine has one, if you really want a moonroof, my advice is to just go get one that already has one on it.
You could always cut the entire roof off of a car that came with a factory moonroof and weld it onto your car. :D

I put one on my car about 6 years ago. I went down to our local junk yard and cut one off of a wrecked bird, I removed the headliner, harness, and all related parts, I cut off the roof about 1 foot below the roof line on all of the posts. Then when I got it back to the shop I drilled out all of the spot welds with a spot weld drill bit. I then drilled out the spot welds on my bird, grinded all of the old welds flat, re-spot welded the roof back on, re-sealed the joints with 3m body sealer, installed a new windshield and backlite, then preceded to repaint the whole car. I installed the harness, did an overlay just as they did from the factory, wired it into the fuse panel, cleaned and lubed the tracks and linkage. It works perfect, although the seal is starting to age as the sun here is brutal, just a little wind noise, but I will be replacing it this year.

Wayyy more than I'd attempt, but then I ain't a fan of Moon Roofs. Picked the TC I have to mod because it didn't have a hole in the roof, or auto temp controll, and was already automatic...
The factory moonroof is awesome. Steve's right. It's cool to see the stars at night. Just don't try to do it while you are driving. :crazy: Plus if you take a long drive on a clear sunny day and your lucky, you will get a cool sunburn. :hick:
I don't think I would go through the trouble of cutting the top off the car. I would just buy another car that has the factory moonroof. But then again I haven't seen that many of them around here.
I was actually considering yanking one out of a Mark VII. Plus it's got that cool control that mounts on the ceiling and has a compass & displays the temperature. I'd have to chane the emblem though.

ive got the factory roof. has anyone swapped in the temp and cumpass with the roof controls from a mark 7 yet... i think it was carm that was going to do that...i think id like that
I think Carm was planning on intalling the compass from an Explorer. Either way, Mark or Explorer, it would be a cool mod.
Cut the entire Top (jejeje, just kidding). This idea makes me crazy. Fortunately, i dont have these tools to do it and ruin the car, but hey, i want a convertible....
