Question: What looks best?
Simple question what wheels look best on my T-bird. Vote now! :D Yes I know it's crude but I used paint :hick:
The rest :D
These be shagy: http://www.groupawheels.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ID=fa16debd-aeab-4588-b091-c3d5386eea20
:ies:
I like keeping it in the Ford vein. R's look good but over done (I know, I have them). Go with the 93 cobra's. Not too flashy, they look like they're from from the correct era for the car. Gives it a nice updated look without going overboard... keeps a bit of a sleeper vibe.
PS: lower it :D
Times 2....
I say go cobra R's, but get the deep dish ones for the back, and paint the spokes body colour, with the polished lips....:D
Roh's are nice looking wheels, but a little pricey when you can get ex-Cobra wheels at less than half the price.
Painting the spokes either body color or a color complementary to body color would look pretty sharp. btw, he's south of the border, so it's "color". :D
x3 on lowering it.
Lower, Welds (or Snypers, the ROH ones you linked to), and all polished.
I like the Cobra R's with your paint scheme.
What is that chin spoiler from?
Welds FTW!
Welds look nice with the stock 2 tone colors and make the car look super clean and ready to race.
Think thats the March Ram Air kit if i remember correctly
that link you posted i think this guy has those rims on his TC. hard to tell though
Deep dish cobra r's in gunmetal with the polished lips.
17x10.5 in the rear and 17x9s in the front, they sell them on ebay for 4lugs,around 400-450 for all 4 rims plus 100 shipping.
I guess I'm rim challenged, I don't know what they are without titles on them. lol
Who makes 17x9s that fit in the front without sticking out past the fender? Remember I have stock 88 LX suspension.
neither....
FR500's, FTW!
Well they don't make 'em in 4-lug:hick:
You guys think 16x8 Cobra Rs would fit with out rubbing? If so what tire size should I go with?
Your car is unique because its so clean, and 2-tone, don't ruin that with some belly button Cobra R's. That craze has been overplayed for 6 or so years.
Since your car is so clean and everything on it looks as if it could have been on the car from the factory, I'd say go with the 93 Cobras, some re-finished snowflakes or 10-holes.
I love me some slots, but if I had to go for a second choice, I'd say '93 Cobras all the way.
not my fault you guys cant spell... :hick:
Refinished turbines would give it a nice factory look to it....
I know I see Cobra Rs all the time. I'm kinda wishey washey about em though. I don't think I like them enough to spend $$$ on them.
The car is clean and if the 8 holes that are on it now were bigger (ie 15x7) they would be staying. I think they make the car. The problem is that being that they are 14x5 and have a 215 section tire they don't handle the torque of the new engine at all.
I have been kicking around the Turbine idea. If I went that route I would polish the lip and the top of the fins and have the center and area between the fins painted gunmetal (dark gray) a la 88 XR7 style.
I've also though about Pony's. I think they look good on the car (in silver chrome ones are waaaayyy to much for the car). What do you guys think. If I went with the Pony's I would use this center cap: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/iwwida.pvx?;item?item_no=LRS-1130N%20%20%20%20%20%201&comp=LRS
ponies look good too...

The Ponys do look good. You may find a polished set on Ebay for a decent price or maybe on the Corral.
Refinished turbines.
yeah, i like the ponies too. I think someone makes 17" ponies if you'd want to try that (but the 16s look good).

You could always go old school.....??
Sorry but Im a sucker for the R's love five spoke. I have GT wheels offa 94 to put on my bird, once I get it 5 bolt.
welds... only if the big and littles though
I think rodlites would look killer with your color combo and would give you the "slot" look also ;)
I would have to agree, it's not like I'm biased or anything :D
Here's a wheel viewer that I used when I picked out my wheels. It lets you lower, change tire profiles, wheel size, paint color, tint the windows etc.

edit: had to fix link
Man I always vote turbines, but the Cobra R's look the best on a Tbird.
ill sell ya a set of turbines.just need some lovin thats all. and some center caps
Take some Snowflakes, paint them the darker silver in your paint scheme, and then sand everything but the recesses down to metal.
Just watch the offset on the wheels. Very easy to get a set of rims that end up looking like something out of the Dodge Truck 4WHD catalog.
While the snowflakes look great on the birds, they are a b*tch to clean. Also, the clearcoat never stands up well on those wheels. Too many sharp edges for the clearcoat to chip on.
I understand the overplay on Cobra Rs but on the other hand, when something looks real good, I don't care if I'm one or one of a thousand rolling them.
The challenge I found when looking for rims was trying to get the correct offset so they didn't stick out. I would have considered the Snypers but there were no 17" available anywhere. ( I have the ROH Drift Rs on my Marauder) I do NOT like Pony rims or 93 Cobras on the TC. I like 5 spokes or slots...
So I am a Cobra R guy. Have them on my MkVII and the TC. The only other rim on the MkVII that entices me is the FR500s. They look sweet on that car.
But to each his own. Neat thing about personalizing your own car.
im a big fan of the snypers. those would be the first choise. as your stuck on 4 lug id say the 93 cobras and the cobra rs a tie. i know everyone says the cobra rs are "played" out BUT. around here i have never seen any on a tbird. hell i have only seen 3 or 4 max that were decent and cared for. throwing those on a relitivally rare tbird, as specially one in nice condition is certailnly NOT the same as sticking them on a stang. i think the 93 cobras look killer as well. they look correct for the car and are much more subtle than the "r"s. id follow those with turbones for the same reason. these cars shouls have come with them from the factory. i wouldnt even consider 10 holes, slots, or snowflakes. those all just plain suck. the welds would be slick but they arent my favorite look on these cars....
if i could vote go 5 lug than i would. so many much better looking wheels out there for these cars that can be had cheep. 96-97 cobras are one of my top faves (darkthunder). theres another guy on here from conneticut. i forgot his SN but his car looks perfect. silver 5.0 turbo coupe. black spoiler. and the cobra wheels. they look amazing.
manson has the machines sloted 5 spokes from a 97-98 ish mustang gt. they look awesome!
I think the Welds look cool if you can get the right offset. I cant tell you how many T-Birds I've seen through the years where the front wheels stick out of the wheel wells... GAG:yuck:
But my vote goes for the Cobra R's. People say they are over done but that doesn't change the fact that they look good and fit right. I also like the Snypers and Shelby Razors are my favs.
Since you have Cobra Rs with a stock suspension (ie stock control arms, K member ect) what offset did you run with 17x9 Cobra Rs to keep them from: 1. hitting anything, and 2. keep them from sticking out past the fender? Also if you have a link to who made them or where you bought them from that would be great. If I do go with Cobra Rs though I *think* that the 17x8 ones that FRPP sells should fit. Does anyone know for sure if they do though?
I got my rims from OE Concepts...

Call them on the phone.... I had to have a business for them to deal with me... so my local Discount Tire stood up for me. I already had the wheels identified etc but O.E. wouldn't/couldn't sell 'em to me directly.

Good luck with your choice. It is always tough to pick something without seeing it in person.
:birdsmily:
Thanks! Looks like they sell Cobra Rs in 17x9 with a +20mm and a +24mm offset. Which one did you use? They also have a 16x8 with a +15mm offset.....
Ah young Jedi.. you didn't check all the links.
Complete sizes, offsets, etc. are all explained at the natomessage link.
(20mm)
Skimmed it and I missed it. Found it now :hick:
They look pretty good. If I go with Cobra Rs I'm going to use sliver painted ones, if I can find them in that offset.
Well call O.E. and see if they have them in silver... I am very satisfied with mine.
Good luck and let us know what you do... POST PICTURES!
welds make any thing look shagy and cobraR
Question about Pony's retracted.
I wanna vote too! Like like the 93 Cobra photochop the best. But you really can't go wrong with Cobra Rs. I put the Snypers last because I just can't visualize them with your paint scheme. Awesome wheels though.
93 Cobra
Cobra R
ROH Snypers
Welds, Cobra Rs and 93 Cobra look nice.
I like my TRX better

I'd be rocking them too if:
1. If I could find some
2. If someone made tires that fit them with out costing $$$$$ or
3. If I could convert them like you did :D
TC 16" SNOWFLAKES, not in the list, but is My choice...
Regards,
Dom.
Here is a sneek peak at my latest conversion wheels:

Want to polish some TC wheels next time?
I have a set of snowflakes and had thought about doing it. But only after I send a pair to Weld Craft Wheels in MI and have them widened to 16 x 8.5.
Then I want to put those new Mickey Thompson 295-50-16 Drag radials on them.:D
I like the 96 Cobra wheels....
I like the welds
off topic or not, but has anyone looked at the early fairmont wheel selection? Looking at this site: http://stuartscustoms.freeyellow.com/Fairmont.html There's some funky wheels on those cars. Particularly the last of the dealership postcards, and the "futura force". http://stuartscustoms.freeyellow.com/postcards/PCFuturaForce0.jpg
There's a set of those wheels just like the Futura Force on a Fairmont in that R&S junk yard.
They're on the gold one
