I pulled this information from another thread in order to give it some elbow room for discussion.
The topic is based on Ford's documentation indicating that your door auto lock system should also "AUTO UNLOCK".
Below are pics of the pins that control auto unlock so anyone wanting to partite is welcome.

No, you are right. When the shifter is in transit passing "through" the reverse detent, there is wiring in place that operates the "Lock" function of the doors. It is like pushing the lock button since you are in reverse for a fraction of a second if you go directly to D. Now if you select reverse, the same happens but I would suspect that the door "LOCK" solenoid is being powered /grounded for the entire time you are in reverse. The engineers probably decided that no one would be in reversee for any extened period that would exceed the heat disipation of the solenoid shell/windings.
BTW,, tke keyless entry does have pins dedicated to the "UNLOCK" funtion.
so here is the senerio.......
doors unlocked
car off
insert key
start car
close door
go to D (passing through R)
doors lock.
What i plan to do tomorrow.
with car on
door locked
car in P
I will go to N
I will unlock doors by the button
I will put the car in D
The doors should remain unlocked.
I will accelerate and verify that the car speed sensor does not also lock the doors
IF the door locks remain unlocked , this would tell us all a lot. First off we could not just duplicate this circuit type within the "N" becaue you would unlock your car as you pass from D to N but upon landing in R on the way to P, your doors would lock again.
I would propose duplicating this "unlock" function two wire circuit in the ignition switch.
here is the theory......
You pass through "R" while the car is running and you drive along.
doors just locked
You stop your car and turn your ign switch back to the lock position (where you normally would take the keys out)
You should have power waiting for you there on the ignition switch from "OFF FUSE 1" that could be applied to "UNLOCK" funtions of the keyless entry pins 1 and 3. I think that when you land on the "OFF, you will get enough power to the unlock pins 1 and 3 but then it goes away when the car finaly shuts off which is a good thing.
Now all we need is a logical ground.
Today I tried a couple things to controdict and add to the above theories.
I started the engine
put the car in R
Doors did not auto lock
Put the car in "N" and the doors locked.
Put the car in D and drove down the road.
I stop and put the car in "P"
I unlock the doors
I put the car in "R" and the doors did not lock
I put the car in "N" and the doors did not lock
I put the car back in P and turn off the engine.
I restart the engine and as soon as the shifter passes into "N", the doors locked.
It appears that the door lock option is a one time thing only per each engine start up and is actuated by the "N" ,,, not the "R".
anyone have any comments or suggestions on the AUTO UNLOCK option?
Ummmm.....I think it would be cool to have? :hick: I mean the inner door handle overrides the lock so it's unnecessary but it would be Jedi-like, as if you did it with your mind or something. :giggle:
You pretty much hit the nail on the head...That's how mine has always been...
The manual states locks are activated when the shifter is moved thru the reverse position... I believe you'll find, IF it's started in neutral and then put in park, they'll lock as well...
Was out in the Grand Marquis and found the above correct... Also as a test, I started the car in neutral and drove home about 5 mi... When I put the selector in park, the doors locked... Of course this may be apples to oranges, but I don't have a running TC to try this experiment...
Its a useless feature and the car does not do it by default contrary to what has been said recently. Plus do you really want your doors unlocked when you've parked in a dark parking garage? Someone could come up and grab your wife or kid out of the passenger seat while you are finishing your cup of coffee. Or they run up and the door is locked.
Depends upon how much you like your wife or kid. ;)
It's just an exercise in making the feature work as promised. Seems like Ford disabled part of the function and this is just an attempt to get it back working again. More of a brain twister than anything. It's not practical but it's logical.
LMMFAO @ that!!!!! Just....wow man. :giggle:
