It's so slow that I often resort to playing a game of cards while pages and images load. Sometimes it's solitaire, sometimes spider solitaire, sometimes freecell, and sometimes MS Hearts.
I actually scored a perfect game on Hearts tonight, first time ever. You can imagine how many games you'd have to play to get a perfect game. I could cry, not out of joy but out of frustration at waiting 10 minutes for a page to load.
On the bright side, I was just told by a new wireless high speed company that I should be able to get high speed internet within a month or so (they're putting a tower up nearby)...
I feel your pain brotha man, I'm still on dialup at home. So yeah...I go from very fast DSL at work, and then 3.5 miles away, dialup at home. And I work on the Internet. Now THAT is just wrong.
Our py cable company where I live was just bought out by a large regional cable company late last year though; we'll be getting their latest state-of-the-art equipment very soon and that includes high-speed cable Internet. Won't be too much longer. Not bad for living in the ass-end of Ohio.
Actually I've been told by baxo and his friend Erik that for dialup, I have a decent connection, better than most. And the dialup accelerator offered by my ISP actually does work. So viewing most things aren't an issue for me. It's just slower than...well, most everything else. Just like my cars. I'm used to that by now. ;)
Congrats on your perfect score though! :headbang:
I remember having 9600 internet connection thinking it was the coolest thing ever.
You must have a lot of patience to wait for images to load.
Do you get to see all pics posted?
Back when I was on dialup, I used to turn off all the pictures. I could still right click > show picture if I thought I needed to see something. Now I'm so used to high speed, I can barely imagine dialup. Even my parents have high speed (I used to think that would never happen :)
Man that score takes some patience!
I probably have the world's slowest high speed, but I would cry if I ever had to go back to dial-up.
are you sure its the internet and it aint your computer?
my god, using dial-up must be awful now. and if your still using aol :wtf:
i havent used it in probly 4 or 5 years
we got wifi, broadband and highspeed all around here. its an internet jambori :shakeass:
i feel sorry for you guys that still gotta pay for it :asshole:
I remember using banana grove (A bbs portal) back when i was like 5 i believe at that time we had a 5600 connection or something like that.
I used the freenet from the local college.
all text. well, there were no pictures back then.
Sorry I had it wrong in the other post, it was a 2400 modem.
I'll tell you you haven't lived until u surf for porn on a text browser. lol
previously called Insight, now called comcast??
TC, Im on dial up as well at home for my work. I even have to connect through our vpn and with a 24k connection, it does take a little bit to recieve files in my work mail.
On my home pc, the only delay is when i open a thread and there are attached pics. The time your talking about is wayyyyyy to slow.
Your a smart computer guy,,, hit ctl/alt/del and see what tasks are running.
I just fixed this one gal's computer for being too slow. Task manager had 63 items listed,, so i figured i would get her down to about 30.
Dialup sux yeah, but ive never had anything else and to tell you the truth, i dont miss a beat. I'm just as productive as anyone else.
I work in the cable / telecom industry and i have a work load of several million with Bresnan, Brighthouse,Charter, Comcast,Comnet, pen 15s, Mediacom,TimeWarner,ATT, NCTC,and Verizon.
Charter is getting a foot hold on telephone service also btw,, thats going to be exciting for them. The equipment i supply them with makes that possible.
So, anyway, while im out on projects doing all this , i go home to my office and plug in to my lil RJ12.,,depressing.
Getting a tower in your area is also going to be nice especially if you can bluetooth in from your cell.
I kinda miss the modem sounds, they were cool.
I remember when we first got dial-up. It took 13 hours to download a song usind Kazaa. I dont miss those days. Now I can download 13 songs a minute using Limewire. My dad works for Wrigley, the gum company, so we get free Wireless Internet.
